I’ve worked with Jak Jak Fairley through this whole camp, and what people don’t understand about MMA is — it’s not just fighting. It’s attrition. Your body gets broken down every single day.
Here’s what fight camp really does to a fighter like Jak:
His neck is wrecked from wrestling and head fighting.
His hips are locked from playing guard and defending takedowns.
His lower back is overloaded from sprawls, clinch work, and heavy S&C.
His shins and calves are battered from kicks and checks.
If you don’t stay on top of that, it turns into an injury that pulls you out of the fight.
My job with Jak hasn’t been to give him a “relaxing massage.”
My job has been:
1. Keep his hips mobile so he can shoot and sprawl fast
2. Keep his neck and shoulders free so he can wrestle without getting stuck
3. Make sure his glutes are actually firing, so his lower back isn’t taking all the load
4. Flush his legs out so he can recover and go again tomorrow — and the day after that
Early in camp we were doing deep work — finding the old injuries and compensation patterns.
In the middle of camp — the hard sparring weeks — it was all about damage control and recovery.
Now in fight week, it’s about keeping him loose, calm, and sleeping well while he cuts weight.
This is the boring, unseen work that wins fights. Not the highlight reels.
Jak has done everything right this camp. Professional, disciplined, shows up and does the work — even on the recovery days.
Proud to be part of his camp and having him chose me to work with him through his MMA journey …
