Two years apart ….

People often ask what it’s like to parent a child with Type 1 Diabetes.

They see the insulin pump.
They see the sensor.
They see a smiling child.

What they don’t see are the nights.

The alarms that shatter your sleep at 2 a.m.
The sprint to your child’s bedroom with your heart racing.
The trembling hands as you check if they’re awake.
The fear when their blood sugar is dangerously low and they’re too sleepy to respond.
The waiting… hoping the glucose starts to rise.

As parents of children with Type 1 Diabetes, we don’t really sleep. We rest with one ear open.

Night-time hypos are terrifying. Every alarm could be a false alarm,or it could be the one that saves your child’s life.

So if you know a parent raising a child with Type 1 Diabetes, understand that they’re carrying an invisible load every single night. A little understanding, a little grace, and a little support go a long way.

To every T1D parent reading this: I see you. You’re doing an incredible job, even when no one else sees the battles you fight in the dark.

Watching Gil and his friends playing freely in the River Ivel took me straight back to childhood memories of Africa, children in the sunshine, exploring the water, looking for fish, splashing one another and creating fun from nature itself.

Life here can sometimes feel so enclosed: houses, screens, scheduled activities and rules around almost every experience. That is why afternoons like this feel so precious. For a few hours, they were simply children,curious, adventurous, soaked from head to toe and completely happy.

No expensive entertainment. No gadgets. Just sunshine, water, friendship and freedom.

This is the childhood I want them to remember. 💙
