Long Service Award
The 22nd August 2026 marked a special anniversary here at Dial-a-Journey, as we recognised and celebrated long service within the organisation. This milestone is an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication, commitment and valued contribution made over many years, and to say a sincere thank you for the continued support given to our staff, members, external partners and the wider community.
This long service award was presented by our Service Delivery Manager Colin to our Finance Officer Senga Stenhouse.

A valued contribution
Senga’s quiet efficiency and diligence help ensure that our bills are paid on time and, just as importantly, that others pay us on time too.

A memorable beginning
When Senga returned home after her interview, her husband, Dougie, asked how it had gone. After she told him, he replied, β€œYou won’t last 10 minutes.”
Well, we are very pleased that you have lasted 10 years, and we hope you will be with us for many more.

Congratulations and recognition
Congratulations, Senga. You are a real credit to Dial-a-Journey, and we are delighted to welcome you into our Long Service Hall of Fame, which is proudly displayed in our reception area xx

On Wednesday 26 August, we held a retirement reception for our former CEO, Duncan Hearsum.
It was a lovely afternoon, and we were pleased to be joined by some of Duncan’s former colleagues from the early days of Dial-a-Journey.
We are grateful to Duncan for everything he has done to help make the charity the success it is today, and we wish him every happiness as he begins a peaceful and well-deserved next chapter.
Duncan was with Dial-a-Journey for more than 30 years. Throughout that time, he was supported by another long-standing member of staff, Heidi Anderson, who became our new CEO on 3 July this year.

This photo of Duncan and Heidi was taken at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in August 2010. At the time, WAVE, Dial-a-Journey’s commercial subsidiary, was one of the first operators of the β€œH” services serving the newly opened hospital.

There's no photo's with this post (we were all to busy drinking), but the team were out celebrating Duncan's retirement after a good while in charge.

There was a good mix of faces (some new and some well lived in), but no fall outs and no broken noses!!

Normal service will be resumed on Monday when the paracetamol has worked.

Looking Ahead
As we prepare to celebrate our 40th anniversary in January 2027, we are looking back at the people, vehicles and moments that shaped our early years. To begin, we are pleased to share a selection of images and memories from our first days of operation in 1987.

One of Our First Buses
This photo was taken at Strathcarron Hospice and shows one of the very first buses we operated. Although it may look rather dated now, it is important to remember how significant it was at the time. Very few vehicles could carry passengers who used wheelchairs, so the service represented a real step forward in accessible transport provision.

Improved Safety and Comfort
Fortunately, vehicle safety technology has advanced significantly since those early days. Today, our passengers benefit from safer, more comfortable journeys, with modern vehicles offering a much better travel experience.
