Five element acupuncture aims to identify the root cause of symptoms.

In my acupuncture clinic I use fine, sterile, single-use needles, and moxibustion (the warming of the dried herb Artemesia Vulgaris or
'moxa' on acupuncture points).

Five element acupuncture restores balance to the body and the emotions, and promotes healing.

A course of at least 4-6 sessions is recommended to benefit fully from this ancient and powerful treatment.

What If Your Symptoms Aren’t a Pelvic Floor Problem... But a Pressure Problem?

We have 3 containers or areas in our torso with slightly differing pressure gradients.

1. Our chest is under negative pressure to create a sucking up and out of the lungs and heart to give them lots of space to function.

2. Our upper abdomen is under slightly positive pressure to aid digestion and excretion

3. The pressure in the deep pelvis is negative to aid in the lift and separation of the pelvic organs up off the pelvic floor

Typically with pelvic health issues we see many people with altered pressure gradients. This is due to alignment changes, beginning from right at the top.

As the head and shoulders come forward, the chest is compressed and the breathing mechanics are compromised.

This increases the pressure further down the torso, resulting in a ‘dumping down’ on top of the pelvic organs.

That pressure has to escape somewhere

It can result in disc injuries, organ prolapse, pelvic congestion, hernias, diastasis recti and incontinence.

How much you sit, stand and move will all influence your pressure gradients.

These are my 3 favourite moves to improve the distribution of pressure and freeing up the rib cage and diaphragm 💨!

Stressed, anxious or in pain? Feeling trapped within a loop of brain chatter and internal dialogue?

Research suggests that when we experience wonder and awe we move our focus from internalised, self-obsessed thinking to the consideration of things far greater than ourselves.

This helps us to move away from our emotions or body focussed pain, and brings a feeling of timelessness, peace and calm.

The most exciting impact of the awe experience is the way we lose a sense of time.

Ever felt or said ‘Time stood still’ or ‘I lost track of time’? This is what it is to be so completely in the moment and experiencing something that takes us out of ourselves.

It’s this sense of timelessness that makes us feel more patient, peaceful and accepting of what is.

Awe soothes our senses and we can move from the fight/flight state to the rest/digest/flow state, our bodies change at a neurological level.

This is key for our ability to function under pressure: awe produces higher-level cognitive processing. We have more open-minded and deeper insights.

According to Keltner 2003 “Awe-inducing events may be one of the fastest and most powerful methods of personal change and growth.”

It can even help reduce or even eliminate chronic pain.

Exciting stuff right!?

Go walk through a tree tunnel, gaze at the stars, have awesome s*x, swim in the river, listen to the storm… and experience the potential of awe!
