2 years later and Owen’s smile is still amazing!!

Starting with a gap of 10mm between his top and bottom teeth, Owen had upper and lower fixed braces alongside a mandibular advancement to move his lower jaw forwards. He has since been wearing his retainers every night to keep everything in place!

Meet Ethan. He’s been with us on work experience this week. On Monday morning he was undecided… Medicine or Dentistry 🤷🏼‍♀️. By Friday afternoon he’d got his whole career planned out. Orthodontics is his future 🤣 (and yes Ethan, putting modules on does get much easier with practice 🤭) He’s been a pleasure to work with. Keen. Interested. Engaged. Polite. It was a sad day in clinic today as we said goodbye to our Senior Orthodontic nurse, Fiona. Many of you will know her from orthodontic education clinics, from her assisting clinicians in clinic, from running joint MDT clinics with our maxillofacial surgeons and restorative consultants. Many of our patients probably think of her as their friend, particularly those that have had combined orthodontics and jaw surgery. She’s helped so many people in their hour of need. Kind, caring, compassionate: she embodies everything a nurse in the NHS should be. We will all miss her. But our loss is someone else’s gain, and we wish her well with her new opportunity. World Head and Neck Cancer Day

Head and neck cancer can affect the mouth, throat, voice box, nose, sinuses and salivary glands. Early detection can make a significant difference, so knowing the signs is important.

Things to look out for:
• A mouth ulcer that doesn’t heal within 3 weeks
• Persistent hoarseness or a sore throat
• Difficulty swallowing
• A lump in the neck
• Red or white patches in the mouth

You can help reduce your risk by:
🦷 Attending regular dental check-ups
🚭 Not smoking or using to***co
🍷 Limiting alcohol
🪥 Maintaining good oral hygiene

If something doesn’t feel right or a symptom lasts longer than 3 weeks, don’t ignore it—get it checked.

Together, we can raise awareness, encourage early diagnosis, and help save lives.
