Bodhi, with its small classes and personal attention, teaches that Yoga uses the weight of your own body to gently develop muscle and build strength. You practice at your own level increasing strength steadily from head to toe. Whatever your current physical condition, it can be adapted to work for you. Yoga is a wonderful form of exercise providing a great way to keep fit and supple and to build

strength and flexibility. It’s fun, it can be adapted to most fitness levels and you can be sure your own individual Yoga practice will always evolve and change as your relationship with asanas (postures) and your levels of fitness change. Even if you don’t feel very flexible or strong to begin with, these things will improve the longer you practice. Yoga isn’t a competition. One of its most liberating gifts is to help us let go of ego, accepting that we are all equal and we are all just doing our best on any given day. Yoga gives us control of ourselves and allows us to look at the universe around us in a more fulfilling way - it teaches us to be present, to quiet our minds and to be happy with who we are.Our teachers know the profound effect practicing yoga can have - Lose weight, learn to relax and have fun! Reiki is an effective method of stress reduction and relaxation. It can be used as a complementary medical therapy to treat pain and minor conditions such as headaches or stomach aches as well as serious illnesses such as heart disease and cancer, helping to reduce negative side-effects of medication, aiding in pain relief and promoting more relaxed sleep. Reiki is increasingly being woven into patient treatment plans in hospitals and hospices alongside traditional medical practices. Most forward-thinking doctors now agree that treating the body, mind and spirit as a ‘WHOLE’ will release tension and anxiety to promote a sense of balance and well being, which allows the body to self-heal both physically and emotionally. Modern life can be stressful. Your body’s way of responding is to try to make the physical, mental or emotional changes to adapt. Chronic pain can arrive from stress, as well as psychological, spiritual and emotional distress, from injuries and overwork or from pain caused by disease. Reiki is a complimentary method of healing that can be experienced whatever your religious or spiritual views and is performed by a practitioner placing their hands on or above a client’s body for the focus and transfer of energy. It is possible to benefit from Reiki treatments whether you simply wish to find some space in a busy life, are seeking to heal long-held negative or destructive emotional patterns or are looking for a complimentary therapy to assist in dealing with ongoing medical conditions. After over 16 years of living with Reiki Amanda Roberts is holds the title of Reiki Master / Teacher. Amanda is a Member of the Reiki Association, a verified Reiki practitioner (Reiki Council), is registered and approved by The Complimentary & Natural Health Care Council (CNHC) and is fully insured to practice Reiki on a professional basis. Whilst most treatments are carried out at our studio near Petworth, she is able to travel should you find it necessary to ask for a treatment to take place elsewhere.

Did you know that yoga can actually act as a powerful neuroplasticity tool by pulling the nervous system out of autopilot and requiring your brain to actively build new neural pathways?

Neuroplasticity essentially requires your brain to adapt to novel and difficult demands. When we find poses in yoga that may be outside our comfort zone, that we may find challenging (note here ‘challenging does not mean painful), when we allow ourselves to sit with that discomfort until it dissipates (it does!) changes actually happen within our brain as neuroplasticity occurs on multiple levels, ranging from tiny chemical changes at individual synapses to large-scale structural changes across brain networks.

At any age - our brain is actively rewiring itself, learning new ways to adapt when we encounter stress. Our brain learns that it can sit with discomfort (both physical and mental) without the need to jump into 'flight or flight' mode where the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) checks in and clarity of thought checks out. And it learns to do this not just on challenging yoga poses but to challenges you find off the mat too.

How it works:
When we are in danger messages travel through the SNS triggering changes in different parts of the body simultaneously. The problem is the part of our brain (the amygdala) that sends those danger messages in in fact pretty stupid. It cant tell the difference between (excuse the time anomaly here) you being chased by a dinosaur or being stressed because there is a spider in your bath. If it stresses you it stresses you and we all have different triggers. The list of what the SNS can do is long but examples are : it can accelerate heart rate; widen bronchial passages ;decrease motility (movement) of the large intestine ;constrict blood vessels and raise blood pressure.

So re-training the brain, learning that there is an alternative, taking a step back and being able to slow down, breathe and soften even when things get challenging is vitally important to long term health both physically and mentally.

Whether its Labneh or you just add cold yoghurt this dish is perfect. Often I forego the sugar though it does make the tomatoes seem sweeter. Packed full of vitamins A, C and E to help keep your skin, bones and teeth in tiptop condition, tomatoes are a fantastic source of flavonoids and carotenoids - antioxidants that can help fight off free radicals. Labneh and yogurt are both highly nutritious and support gut health, boost immunity, and provide essential proteins and calcium. Yogurt is an excellent source of probiotics whilst labneh offers a thicker, more concentrated dose of protein and is generally much lower in lactose. Whichever option you choose your tastebuds will be grateful!

We’ve made labneh the same way for years: yoghurt strained overnight until thick and creamy. Serve it spread on a plate with roasted tomatoes and olive oil — plus, the leftovers make a brilliant pasta sauce. Browse online for more.

Weight training - and for those who think that means time in the gym doing your back in with heavy weights and questionable alignment- that means RESISTANCE training too, can improve both quality of life and help you live longer. RESISTANCE TRAINING TUES 2nd : TILLINGTON 19.00
BOOK www.bookwhen.com/bodhi

Alignment matters. If you're using weights, the alignment matters even more than the size of weights you choose. This resistance training class is based round vinyasa asanas to help you use both hand held weights and your own body weight to get results. And its fun too!

Regular resistance training can improve strength and flexibility, increase your metabolism and improve bone density because activities that put stress on bones can nudge bone-forming cells into action. The resistance can come from weights or your own body weight and these sessions will teach you the safest best way to practice both in class and at home.
