This weekend is something quite special.

Our very first 🐴 Meet the Horses Session takes place on Saturday.

What started as an idea, a conversation and a belief that horses can help create calm, connection and confidence has now become a reality.

Over the past few weeks I've been overwhelmed by the number of parents, young people and adults who have reached out. The stories people have shared have highlighted just how much many of us are looking for spaces where we can slow down, breathe and simply be ourselves.

The Meet the Horses sessions are designed to be gentle, welcoming and low-pressure.

When was the last time you truly switched off?

Not scrolling.

Not watching TV.

Not replying to messages.

Not thinking about tomorrow.

Not worrying about work.

Not carrying everyone else's needs.

Just switched off.

For many people, the answer is:

"I can't remember."

We're living in a world that constantly asks for our attention.

Notifications.

Emails.

Deadlines.

Responsibilities.

Noise.

And whilst we often talk about the importance of looking after our wellbeing, many people don't know what that actually looks like in practice.

Sometimes it starts with something very simple.

Stepping outside.

Taking a breath.

Connecting with nature.

Spending time with an animal.

Finding a space where you don't need to be anything other than yourself.

It's one of the reasons I feel so passionate about the work I do.

Because everybody deserves somewhere they can pause.

One thing horses never do is pretend.

If they're relaxed, you'll know.
If they're uncertain, you'll know.
If they're curious, you'll know.
They're wonderfully honest.

I often think that's one of the reasons people enjoy being around them.

In a world where we're constantly trying to be the right thing for everyone else, horses quietly remind us that it's okay to simply be ourselves.

I wonder how many children are spending every day trying to fit into a world that feels too loud, too busy and too overwhelming.

Then we wonder why they're exhausted.

Sometimes children aren't struggling because they're incapable.

They're struggling because they're working twice as hard as everyone realises.

Twice as hard to concentrate.

Twice as hard to socialise.

Twice as hard to cope with noise, change and expectations.

Perhaps instead of asking children to keep adapting to the world, we should spend a little more time thinking about how the world can adapt to them.

Just a thought. 🀍

Sometimes the simplest things have the biggest impact.
A walk outdoors.
A quiet conversation.
Time away from screens.
Spending time with an animal.

Over the past few weeks I've had conversations with parents looking for support for anxious children, adults wanting to reconnect with horses after many years away, and individuals simply searching for a little calm in a busy world.

That's exactly why I created the Meet the Horses sessions.
A relaxed opportunity to spend time around the horses, learn a little about them and simply enjoy being outdoors.

πŸ“… Saturday 20th June
πŸ’· Β£10 per person

Suitable for children, young people and adults.
If you'd like further information, send me a message with your email address and I'll happily send over the details.

I wonder how many adults are walking around carrying labels that were given to them as children.

"Too sensitive."

"Too quiet."

"Too emotional."

"Too much."

"Lazy."

"Difficult."

"Shy."

It's funny how a few words spoken years ago can become part of the story we tell ourselves.

The problem is, children grow up.

But those labels often stay.

One of the most powerful things I've witnessed is someone realising:

"That was someone else's opinion of me, not the truth about me."

Imagine what might change if we became a little more careful with the labels we give others.

And a little more curious about the labels we've given ourselves.

One of my horses taught me something recently.

I was trying to encourage him to do something.

Nothing dramatic. Nothing difficult.

But the more I encouraged, the less interested he became.

The more I tried to persuade, the more he resisted.

The moment I stopped pushing and gave him some space, he made the decision himself.

It got me thinking about how often we do this with people.

We push.

We persuade.

We explain.

We encourage.

We want the best for them.

And yet sometimes the more pressure we apply, the further away they move.

Whether it's a child, a colleague, a friend, or even ourselves.

Sometimes what is needed isn't more encouragement.

It's space.

Space to think.

Space to process.

Space to choose.

I've noticed that growth often happens in the moments we stop trying to force it.

A lesson I'm still learning. 🐴🀍

A parent said something to me this week that has stayed with me.

After spending time with the horses, their daughter went home and started talking about riding again.

That might not sound significant.

But horses had once been a huge part of her life.

Over time, she had drifted away from them.

The parent described it as though she had reconnected with a part of herself that had been missing for a while.

I think that's one of the things I love most about this work.

Sometimes we aren't trying to fix anything.

Sometimes we're simply creating the space for people to remember who they are.

This summer I'll be running:

🐴 Meet the Horses Introduction Sessions
🌿 Children's Wellbeing Sessions
πŸŒ™ Teen Wellbeing Sessions
🀍 Adult Wellbeing & Reset Sessions

Words matter.

The language we use shapes the way we see people.

A trauma-informed approach invites us to look beyond behaviour and become curious about what might be happening underneath.

Instead of:

❌ "Challenging behaviour"

What if we considered:

βœ… "Communicating distress"

Instead of:

❌ "Attention seeking"

What if it was:

βœ… "Connection seeking"

Instead of:

❌ "Defiant"

Could it be:

βœ… "Protective"
βœ… "Needing autonomy"
βœ… "Trying to feel in control"

Instead of:

❌ "Resistant"

What if they are:

βœ… Feeling unsafe
βœ… Unsure
βœ… Not ready

When we change our language, we often change our response.

And when we change our response, we create the conditions for trust, connection and healing.

What words or phrases have you found helpful when working in a trauma-informed way?
