Do I Need a Rollator – And Am I Using It Correctly?

Do you find yourself holding onto furniture when walking around the house? Or perhaps when you're out, you look for a wall, railing or someone's arm for a little extra confidence?

It might be worth considering a rollator.
A rollator isn't about giving up your independence — it's about helping you keep it!

But there is a right way to use one.

When walking, try to stay close to the rollator and walk between the rear wheels, rather than pushing it out in front of you and then trying to catch up with it.
The handles also need to be at the right height so you can walk comfortably and upright without having to stoop.

And if your rollator has a seat, always put the brakes on before sitting down.
At Active Mobility, we believe everyone deserves freedom, independence and the confidence to get out and enjoy life.

If you're wondering whether a rollator might help you, come and try one. We'll explain the different options in easy-to-understand language and help you decide what suits your everyday life.

Life is for living — sometimes a little support can give you a lot more freedom!
Do you already use a rollator? Has it given you more confidence when you're out and about? Let us know in the comments. And please like and share — it might help somebody else who is struggling with their walking.

“I’m Not Disabled Enough for a Mobility Scooter!”

I know exactly how this feels, because I was that person.
When it was first suggested that I should use a mobility scooter, I didn't want to accept that I needed one. I could still walk, so surely a mobility scooter was for someone less mobile than me?

How wrong I was!

I can still walk short distances, but today I would be lost without my mobility scooter.

It means I can take our girls out for a walk, get out and about, meet people and stop for a chat. Meeting people and socialising really does make my day.
Without my scooter, I simply wouldn't do half the things I do now.

So perhaps the question isn't:
“Am I disabled enough for a mobility scooter?”
Maybe it should be:
“What am I missing out on by not using one?”
Using a mobility scooter isn't admitting defeat. For me, it's about Freedom, Independence and having a quality of life.

If you're struggling with walking but aren't sure whether a mobility scooter is right for you, give the team at Active Mobility a call. They will listen to what you want to do and explain the different options available in plain English.
And believe me, I wish I'd accepted mine sooner!

Have you had the same experience? What does FREEDOM mean to you? Let me know in the comments below. Please like and share — somebody you know might be having exactly the same thoughts.

If you use an active chair, but frustrated that you can’t have the freedom, independence and the fun you deserve consider the Klaxon Scrambler.

It is a power add on that turns your man powered chair into a beast of a chair. It allows the user to travel at speeds of up to 13.2 mph (private land) otherwise you can turn the speed down to 8mph to use on road or 4mph for pavements.

It has a choice of three different battery sizes:

48V x 2.9 Ah, 140 Wh Airline compliant, with a range of 7.46/8.7 Miles So you can travel abroad on aircraft and visit various tourist destinations around the world. Enjoy visiting them because you will not be so tired. This battery is airline compliant

48V x 5.8 Ah, 280 Wh Range 12.4/15.5 Miles this mid-range battery can give you good milage around town and going out with friends.

48V x 11.6 Ah, 528 Wh Range 45/50km 28/31 Miles This is the biggest battery in the range so I would suggest this is best used for rougher terrain and going around parks. Also depending on your weight this will give you better range.

With this easy-to-use adaption you can go over rougher terrain and go places you just would not be able to access if you just use your arms.

Like anything, it takes practice to learn how to use it but, truly once you get use to it, very stable and straight forward to use. It bolts on to most Active Wheelchairs and the grip is amazing.

If you ever have had to stop going up hill, do you find it hard to get going again? The scrambler has a function called hill Start, literally holds you where you stop once engaged, then as soon as you engage motor it releases to let you carry on up hill.

If you would like further information regarding the scrambler please contact Active Mobility on 01789 339738 Email: [email protected] or call in to our showroom, Units ¾ Avenue Fields Industrial Estate Stratford Upon Avon CV37 0HT

Where would a little more freedom take you?

For some people, it's getting back out with friends. For others, it's going to work, enjoying a day out with the family, travelling, or simply being able to get around without every journey feeling like hard work.

That's what we like about the Ki Mobility Rogue ALX Active Wheelchair.
It's designed around the person using it and the life they want to lead – helping make everyday movement feel easier, more natural and giving you the confidence to concentrate less on your wheelchair and more on where you're going next.

Because choosing a wheelchair shouldn't really be about the wheelchair.
It should be about what you want to be able to do with it.

If you'd like to have a chat about whether an active wheelchair could make a difference to your everyday life, we're always happy to help.
