I have had a rant about the negatives of flip flops and wearing the right shoes for the environment. Bare feet are best and bare feet shoes are great. However I am off on a exploring holiday in France and I want some shoes that will be cool and comfortable so I am testing some.

Helen came to see me with what she thought was Plantar Fasciitis. She had been in pain working, she is meant to stand but was using a stool. Walking to work was difficult and breaks were needed and doing very little at the weekend which was not her.

Helen had a 9 session package and was able to do all the boring stuff like pain free at work and walk to and from easily. Helen was most happy about been active at the weekends and getting back to the gym

Love going on holiday and made an observation about flip flops which has turned into a rant on footwear environment and plantar fasciitis.

Footwear for plantar fasciitis can be tricky and the environment plays a part. I am a big advocate of bare feet for plantar fasciitis and have detailed options HERE https://plantarfasciitisrehabilitation.com/plantar-fasciitis-footwear

Heel Spurs

Strictly these are not a cause of plantar fasciitis they tend to be a progression once you have plantar fasciitis and maybe a residual change from previous bouts of plantar fasciitis.

A heel spur is a bony projection from the heel bone to the fascia to help with the connection to the fascia and improve strength and reduce strain and can be very painful. An important note many of you will have heel spurs that don’t cause any pain from repair of previous plantar fasciitis damage or stress on the foot, this can be up to 40% of you ( Michelsson et al. 2005).
