A yellow heat‑health alert is now in place across the North East from 9am today (11 August) until 9pm on 14 August.

Temperatures are expected to climb, with Sunderland and South Shields reaching around 30°C on Thursday, and inland areas peaking at 32°C. Please take extra care over the next few days - especially if you’re supporting vulnerable family, neighbours or patients.

Learn how to protect your eyes whilst watching the partial solar eclipse!

We probably shouldn’t have to say this, but don’t look directly at the sun. Looking directly at the sun without the right protection can cause permanent damage to your eyesight – so you need to take care. Remember, your normal sunglasses may look great, but they won't cut it.
