In the health and care system in the North East and North Cumbria, we want to be the best at getting better – with continuous learning and improvement at the heart of everything we do, and in the way in which we work. Through the sharing of learning, ideas, and good practice, and by trying new things together, we can find solutions to the challenges we face, and support each other to make a differ

ence to the health of people living in our region. Building on past successes like the North East Transformation System and CLIC (Cumbria Learning and Improvement Collaborative), the Boost learning and improvement community brings together people with a passion for improvement, innovation and change in health and care. Boost ultimately serves as a hub for innovation, idea-sharing, networking, and supporting improvement efforts.

A new report highlights the vital role of charities and community groups in supporting people across North Cumbria - through personalised, relationship-based care.

It showcases how social prescribing and health coaching connect people to local support, improving wellbeing and reducing pressure on services. However, it warns this impact is at risk without sustainable, long-term funding.

✨ Welcome to the Neighbourhood Health Learning Conference ✨

Today, we’re delighted to welcome colleagues, partners and leaders from across the North East and North Cumbria to our Neighbourhood Health Learning Conference at St James’ Park.

This region-wide event brings people together to strengthen how we work at neighbourhood level - creating space for shared learning, collaboration and practical action.

Throughout the day, we’ll be exploring key themes including leadership, data and insights, partnership working, and citizenship, with opportunities to connect, reflect and turn ideas into action.

Neighbourhood health is central to improving outcomes, tackling inequalities and delivering more joined-up, proactive care - and today is about building the relationships, insight and momentum to make that happen.

💬 We’re looking forward to a day of learning, conversation and collaboration — and to continuing this shared journey from insight to action.

Leading system-level change - what next for our community?

We’re proud to see Boost recognised in new system leadership research exploring how large-scale change actually happens in health and care.

The report highlights Boost as:
- A relational learning system
- A way of building the “social glue” across partners
- A platform for shared learning and collective improvement

This is about more than improvement methods - it’s about how we learn together as a system.

Join us virtually on Wednesday 1 July, 1-2.30pm for a Connect & Learn session, where we’ll bring these insights to life and explore together what they mean for our system.

A new innovation from University Hospitals Tees is transforming orthopaedic surgery.

Anatostat uses life-sized 3D models created from CT scans to support surgical planning, helping clinicians rehearse procedures, improve outcomes, and involve patients more meaningfully in decisions about their care.

With over 100 models already produced, the approach is delivering time savings, cost efficiencies and improved patient understanding.
