Today we’re proud to announce our Health Inequities Partnership.

Last Autumn, we set out an ambition to invest £50 million of truly life-changing funding to support communities and organisations working together to address health inequities starting with structural racism and discrimination.

We know not every community has the same starting point. We know from our conversations with communities that there are loud, clear and real concerns about health and health inequities. We know structural racism and discrimination continue to shape the health outcomes of many communities.

These inequities are deeply embedded across systems. They are not the result of isolated actions by individual organisations. They stem from long-standing structural factors. Unequal access to resources. Underrepresentation in decision-making. Discriminatory environments, and more. All of these continue to affect people's opportunities for good health.

Tackling health inequities requires collective action. Action across communities, civil society, public services, funders, policymakers and institutions. Partnership is at the heart of this work.

Today marks an important step on that journey.

From the outset, we were clear that tackling structural racism and discrimination would be a bold and important starting point for this partnership.

Communities. Organisations. People with lived experience. They’ve all consistently told us that these issues continue to shape health outcomes and opportunities. By bringing together organisations with different strengths, perspectives and experiences, we hope to contribute to wider efforts to address health inequities. To create healthier and fairer futures.

What excites us most is not just the organisations involved. It’s what becomes possible when we all come together.

As Jabeer Butt, Chief Executive of Race Equality Foundation, said: “This award provides an incredible opportunity to build on the Foundation’s success in identifying how racism impacts the health and wellbeing of Britain’s populations and what can be done to tackle it…

“The challenge of improving the building blocks of wellbeing is huge, but we’re excited that this investment in partnerships and co-production will create an opportunity for all people and communities to flourish and experience better health in Britain.”

✨ Supporting Research to Improve Community Care ✨

Culture Care North was delighted to welcome Nicola Brimblecombe and Jayeeta Rajagopalan from The London School of Economics and Political Science - LSE to Sunderland for three days of community research.

The project explores how local services, such as transport, shops, community groups and faith organisations, can support older people from the Bangladeshi community to live well and remain independent.

We had the opportunity to speak with older community members about their experiences, the challenges they face and how health conditions can impact everyday life.

We are proud to support research that helps amplify community voices, tackle inequalities, and shape better support for older people.

🌿 Community Arts Research at Culture Care North CIC Day Care 🌿

We had our final session with artist Parvin Abdur, our local Bengali artist, who worked with our group to create a Chulha — a traditional Bengali cooker as part of our Community Arts Research Project with Cultural Spring and and Sangini.

Through this creative journey, we explored how art connects to our everyday lives, memories, identity, and wellbeing — especially when ageing in a different country, facing language barriers, and navigating services that may not always understand your culture.

The Chulha became more than a piece of art. It opened conversations about home, family, food, traditions, and the experiences that shape who we are.

Our women shared stories, laughter, memories, and reflections — showing how creativity can reduce isolation, create belonging, and give people a voice.

The project reminded us that culturally competent care starts with listening and understanding the whole person — their culture, faith, memories, and lived experiences.

A heartfelt thank you to Parvin Abdur, Sangini, The Cultural Spring, and all our amazing women who shared this journey with us ❤️

🌿 Culture Care North Day Care Programme 🌿

We are delighted to announce that our Day Care Programme has officially started and will take place every Monday at 11:00am at Baytul Ilm Academy.

Our wonderful group of ladies have come together to begin making traditional clay chulas (cooking stoves), bringing back memories of how they used to cook while growing up in Bangladesh. This project was entirely their idea and reflects the importance of preserving culture, sharing experiences, and reconnecting with cherished traditions.

The ladies are excited to work together and hope to bring their vision to life as a group. It has been inspiring to see their enthusiasm, creativity, and teamwork already shining through.

We look forward to sharing their journey and celebrating the knowledge, skills, and memories that make our community so special.

Culture Care North CIC was pleased to participate in the Rank Foundation Sunderland Black & Racially Minoritised VCSE Stakeholder Events – Sessions 1 & 2.

These sessions provided a valuable opportunity to engage with community leaders, organisations and partners from across Sunderland to discuss the opportunities, challenges and future priorities for Black and racially minoritised communities.

As a culturally responsive social care organisation, we recognise the importance of community voice, lived experience and partnership working in shaping services and creating more equitable outcomes. It was encouraging to be part of conversations focused on strengthening community infrastructure, leadership, collaboration and long-term sustainability.

Thank you to the Rank Foundation and all those involved for facilitating these important discussions. We look forward to continuing to work alongside partners and communities to help create inclusive, connected and thriving communities across Sunderland.

Today, Culture Care North was proud to attend the North East Anti-Racism Coalition event at Northumberland College

It was great to come together with organisations, community groups, and partners who share a commitment to creating a North East where racism and hatred have no place, and where diversity, inclusion, and equality are celebrated.

The coalition’s mission is to build a visible anti-racist movement, strengthen community cohesion, support organisations, and promote positive change across our region.

We look forward to continuing to work with others to help create communities where everyone feels safe, respected, valued and able to thrive.💚🙌

Culture Care North CIC Director Rehana Sultana and our Community Ambassador Amina Begum attended the Fuse Research Event at Northumbria University focused on Co-producing a culturally appropriate living options framework with older people from South Asian communities.

The event explored healthy ageing, culturally appropriate support, and the importance of relationship-based and person-centred care within south Asian community

One of the strongest messages from the day was that “home” is much more than a building - it is relationships, familiarity, dignity, faith, culture, and community connection.

These discussions strongly reflected the vision behind Culture Care North CIC and the work we are already developing around culturally and faith-informed, community-rooted care and support for older people from ethnically diverse communities.

Through our work, we recognise the importance of language, trust, family involvement, cultural understanding, and helping people remain connected to their identity and community as they age.
