I'd been working as an electrician for years and I kept seeing the same thing: customers paying decent money for sloppy work, missing paperwork, or worse — work that was technically dangerous.

There's a reason "electrician" sits near the top of every list of trades people don't trust. And it's because the bar is too low.

Lumiel was built around one rule: do the job properly the first time, paperwork in their hand, and treat people the way you'd want your own mum to be treated.

"It's just a quick job, I'll do it myself." Three jobs where that costs more than it saves. 👇

1. Swapping a socket or light switch.
Looks simple. But a loose connection behind the faceplate can arc and overheat for months before anything visibly goes wrong. By then it's a fire risk, not a faceplate.

2. Adding a spur or an extra socket off an existing circuit.
Every circuit has a limit. Add to it without checking the load and you haven't gained a socket — you've quietly overloaded the cable buried in your wall.

3. Anything in a bathroom or kitchen.
Water and electricity have specific rules for a reason — zones, ratings, protection. Get one wrong and the danger isn't theoretical.

DIY has its place. These three aren't it. If you're unsure, ask before you start — not after.

🔊 Buzzing socket = loose connection
👃 Burning smell = possible overheating
✋ Warm socket = not normal
💡 Dimming lights = overloaded circuit
🔁 Breaker keeps tripping = fault somewhere

Don’t ignore the warning signs ⚠️
If in doubt, switch it off and get it checked.

One sign on its own isn't always an emergency. But none of them should be ignored. When in doubt, switch it off and ask.
