Did you know it takes 4 years to train as an Audiologist, four years at university and lots and lots of practical work with patients in a hospital.
We are fully qualified Audiologists who have worked within the NHS and private sector since the 90’s. There are other routes into Audiology you might see a private dispenser who has done an 8 week course and can fit hearing aids or a nurse who has done a couple of days wax removal course, while the majority of dispensers and nurses are good they don’t have the expertise or experience we have with Audiology.
Always check who you are seeing before you let them remove wax or sell you hearing aids.
If you would like any free advice please give us a call.

🔔🔔How can wearing hearing aids help reduce my risk of dementia?🔔🔔

🔴The risk of getting dementia almost doubles if you have an untreated mild hearing loss.

🔴With a moderate hearing loss, the risk of dementia triples.

🔴With a severe untreated hearing loss you are five times more likely to develop dementia.

It is not fully known why there is a link between dementia and hearing loss or what other factors may have an influence, but it is thought that wearing hearing aids sooner and more regularly could help reduce the risk of cognitive decline and dementia.

Some theories state that because hearing aids help you hear more clearly, less 'brain energy' is required to figure out what is being said and to hold a conversation. Because of the reduced listening effort, there is less 'strain' on the brain which means the brain has more 'energy' to fight off degenerative (weakening) changes in the brain which could go on to become dementia.

There is a strong link between hearing loss and dementia. According to one study, people with mild hearing loss are two times as likely to develop dementia, and this increases to three times for those with moderate hearing loss (Lin et al 2011). The reasons for this relationship are not clear, but communication difficulties may be one reason, as both hearing loss and dementia can make communication more difficult.

Hearing loss is widespread – it affects 10 million people in the UK while six million people have or could benefit from a hearing aid(s). As our society ages, this number is set to grow: current predictions are that by 2031 there will be more than 14.5 million people with hearing loss in the UK (Action on Hearing Loss, 2011).

Age-related damage is the single biggest cause of hearing loss. Seventy-one per cent of people over the age of 70 have hearing loss. This means that older people are very likely to experience hearing loss alongside other long-term conditions – such as dementia. Other causes of hearing loss include exposure to loud sounds, medical conditions, genetic predispositions etc.

If any of the above sounds like you or you have concerns please give us a call for a free hearing assessment 01642 701398

Can hearing aids help with tinnitus?

Yes they can, hearing aids amplify the sounds around you taking your mind from your tinnitus and focuses you on something else, whether that be conversations, birds singing, rain or other backgrounds noises. This all makes tinnitus much less noticeable.
Most hearing aids now have sound programs that can distract the brain from tinnitus in those who suffer from more severe forms of tinnitus.

The first step is getting a hearing test, we offer free hearing assessments where we do full diagnostics- otoscopy, tympanomentry, audiometry, SIN testing.

If you feel like you could benefit from a hearing assessment please give us a call 01642 701398

It’s Glastonbury this week 🎶🪅🎪🎡
With that in mind did you know live music can reach almost 120dB, that is as loud as a jet engine.
Listening to music at this level for more than 66 seconds can damage your hearing, scary thought and also something that we don’t want to admit to ourselves.

We do hearing protection and can customise your protection depending on your needs. We also do wax removal, hearing assessments and hearing aids, you will always see a fully qualified Audiologist.
