Did you know there has been a 43% drop in Learning Disability nurses since 2009?! That is a very frightening statistic.
Today we attended the lecture 'Falling Through the Cracks', hosted by the Royal College of Nursing, looking at the evidence showing how important and beneficial Learning Disability Nursing involvement with people with Learning Disabilities is, and why it should be seen as value for money to the NHS and the government.
Thank you to the panel for their insight, especially to Aaron Hume, Disability rights campaigner.

Do make sure to go out and vote today! Polling stations close at 10pm.

This week, ahead of the election, AFA's Easy Read tea looked at the Easy Read manifestos released by most of the political parties, as well as the brilliant voting guides on different topics put together by and Easy News.

Our members shared their thoughts on why accessible information is so vital for the election

"It helps me be informed in my vote. I can make an informed choice"
"It helps everyone have their say. The regular manifestos are very long and full of jargon. Everyone can benefit from the Easy Read"
"It makes it feel like my vote matters"

And some thoughts for the parties to think about?

"There needs to be co-production when making things like this. The people can help make these even better. Listen to us!"
"I wouldn't have seen these if Susie (supporter) didn't find them for us. The parties need to share them more widely so everyone can use them."

We hope that however is voted in takes time to listen to the self advocacy movement to make positive changes.
