✨ Healing and the need for Safety ✨

Following on from yesterday's video I wanted to expand on what happens to your nervous system when you are harsh to yourselves.

Learning to give yourself patience and compassion isn't just a nice thing to do, it is essential for allowing your nervous system to feel safe. It is this safety that creates the environment for true healing to occur, be that mental or physical.

This is a process, you can learn to be on your own side, and incase you had forgotten, you deserve it 🩡

✨ Labels ✨

Be mindful of the labels you give yourself. Your subconscious is listening πŸ‘‚ and this has a direct impact on both your mental and physical health. You didn't deserve those labels from the person or people who gave them to you initially and you don't deserve them from yourself 🩡

Learning to offer ourselves grace, compassion and love is a life changing skill. A skill that can be learnt. One of the greatest joys I get from this work is witnessing people become kinder to themselves. The first step is always in the noticing. So next time you are calling yourself names, notice it. Comment on it. And remind yourself that you are human, that you are trying your best, that you are enough 🩡

✨ Mental Health Awareness Week ✨

Self compassion is so important to our mental health and wellbeing but yet it can feel so out of reach to so many people. We explore why it is that offering compassion and patience to others is so much easier than giving it to ourselves on our training. That understanding can help us move towards a place where we can start being on our own side, baby step by baby step πŸ‘£

So to mark Mental Health Awareness Week we have a challenge for you - remember to give one back to yourself... 🩡

✨ Finding your people ✨

Humans are a social species. Our nervous systems are not designed to act alone, they connect to those around us, constantly assessing safety. That safety includes emotional safety, the ability to be our authentic self without feeling judged as more or less than the other people in the room.

Be mindful of who you choose to spend your time with. Finding your tribe - the people who you can just be yourself with - is such an important part of healing. Such an important part of nervous system regulation. Treasure them. Make time for them. You deserve it 🩡

πŸ—£οΈBe mindful of the tone you use with yourself when you notice that you have leaned back towards unhelpful behaviour patterns. Remember that change is gradual and it is totally normal to take steps backwards as well as forwards πŸ”„.

🩡🚜It is of course ok to feel frustrated when this happens but I encourage you to use the frustration as motivation for more change rather than as another way of judging yourself. Offer yourself the grace you offer others. It is all part of the process 🚜🩡

Remember to make time for childish 😜. Fun is important.

And if you have lost your fun please don't be harsh to yourself about it. Start small, acknowledge the space you are in and find one small thing that offers you relief. Start with small moments of relief. Baby steps back to joy still get you there 🩡

Sparking childlike wonder isn’t childish β€” it’s intelligent healing.

Science shows that childlike play floods the body with dopamine and oxytocin, tones the vagus nerve, lowers cortisol, discharges stored tension, and sends powerful felt safety signals that shift the nervous system from protection mode into deep parasympathetic rest, repair, and vibrant regulation.

In our telehealth practice, we prescribe these mind-body practices with the same intention and precision as a personalized food protocol, targeted supplements, or peptides β€” because mental health is physical health. When joyful, playful practices become part of the healing plan, patients experience measurable improvements in regulation, inflammation reduction, hormone balance, and whole-body vitality.

This is your reminder to take rest, to pause. Be mindful of the 'when... I'll...' trap. There will always be a reason not to and you do not need to earn rest 🩡

A reminder for me today too after I caught myself racing through the tasks πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ. I caught it, I stopped, I took ten minutes to focus on my out breath in the sunshine. Remember, you do not need to get this perfect. We are all trying our best 🩡

We couldn't agree with this more. Allowing children the freedom to try, to explore and to make mistakes without shame is so important in the development of their self esteem.

Let's allow children to feel capable. Let's allow children to have some control so that they don't need to seek it. There are many building blocks to self esteem and this is one of the key ones.

Sometimes less from us is more. Within the parameters of safety, let children try. Resist doing things for them because we know how to do it 'right'. You might be surprised by just how much they are capable of when we get out of their way and give them the space to try 🩡

✨The way we see ourselves ✨

We haven't shown this video in training for a number of years but we were inspired to last week by a beautiful lady who commented that she struggles with how she looks. The room was surprised that this gorgeous person (inside and out) would hold negative beliefs about their self.

The truth - so many of us focus on the negatives about ourselves and struggle to see the positives for the many reasons we discuss on our training. There is another way 🩡.

Watch this video and ask yourself, which version is more accurate? The self description or the strangers? Can we move towards a place of self compassion? Can we start noticing our qualities as well as our faults? The things we get right as well as the things we get 'wrong'. Lives change when we find self acceptance. It is possible to live a life where you are on your own side 🩡
