🥤 Many fizzy drinks are acidic, and frequent exposure to acids can cause dental erosion — the gradual loss of tooth enamel.
What can dental erosion cause?
• Tooth sensitivity
• Smoother, thinner or more transparent enamel
• Yellowing as dentine becomes more visible
• Changes in tooth shape
• Small chips or cracks
• Increased tooth wear
Sugary fizzy drinks can also contribute to tooth decay, while sugar-free versions may still be acidic and contribute to erosion.
Reducing frequent acid exposure can help protect enamel:
• Avoid prolonged sipping
• Keep acidic drinks to mealtimes where possible
• Choose water between meals
• Wait before brushing after acidic drinks
Once enamel is lost, it cannot naturally grow back — making prevention and early dental advice important. 🦷
