Regular sports massage treatments can help with a number of issues. Most of the people I see are in fact not athletes or regular sporting people they are just people struggling with general aches and pains from life or the jobs they do.

Side effects of sports massage can differ from person to person. This will mainly be related to what you are getting treated for.

After a sports massage you may be slightly sore especially if you are new to this type of treatment, this will usually wear off after a couple of days. Depending on the depth of massage you may experience light bruising or redness of the skin, this will also wear off after a couple of days. You can help these symptoms with post treatment recommendations from your therapist such as hot/cold therapies or some light stretching.

You may also experience headaches or nausea due to increased blood flow and lying in unfamiliar positions. You can limit this by making sure you are hydrated both before and after your treatment. If at any time during your treatment you feel uncomfortable or want adjustments to your position just let your therapist know and this will be catered for.

There are many things that can happen after your treatment, so it is important to let you therapist know any concerns you have prior to treatment. Most of the time you will only experience the positive aspects of the treatment but it is always good to be prepared for other possibilities.

Contrary to popular belief, sports massage isn't just for athletes or regular gym goers. It can be used to aid general discomfort caused by just average day to day life.

- reduced chance of injury
- increased joint range of motion
- reduction of pain
- relaxation

Whether you are training for an event, have long periods of sitting or standing or just want to generally increase your wellbeing; sports massage can produce many beneficial outcomes for you.

>Sports massage increases muscle recovery by increasing blood flow to the muscles to help flush out waste products and deliver nutrients to them.
>Sports massage reduces the chance of injury by increasing the pliability of the muscles meaning they and the joints around them have a further range of motion.
>Sports massage can help with general pain by relaxing the muscles causing tension and releasing endorphins to reduce metabolic irritants.
>Sports massage can be relaxing and produce an almost sleepy affect as it releases endorphins and lowers cortisol which can help reduce stress.
