When does candle season start for you ? Is it at the same time as pumpkin season ? And what if the candle is a pumpkin or the pumpkin is a candle ?

This week I’m starting to change the seasons in the shop. Tomorrow my autumn window starts to take shape . I’ve kept the window very empty since moving in so everyone could have a good look through but now the temperatures are a little more bearable it’s time to get creative 🎃🕯️🍄‍🟫
Open 10-4 daily

So many social media posts today about saying goodbye to August.

August has gone so fast for me, despite the obvious lows I’ve experienced some beautiful moments and now September brings the final goodbye .

Grief is such a strange thing. What I’ve come to understand is just how different it is for everyone, and how differently we all deal with it. I never expected my way of coping to be what it is, but this isn’t a time for me to analyse why, or compare how I’m feeling with anyone else. I’m just accepting that we all find our own way through it.

I’m actually really sad to say goodbye to August. It was the last month I saw my mum. Somehow turning the page on the calendar feels more significant than I expected it to.

It also feels like the end of summer. The light is changing, the evenings are drawing in and everything is starting to shift towards a new season.

And I suppose that’s the strange thing about time. However much you might want it to stand still for a little while, it doesn’t.

The seasons change. September arrives. And you just have to find your own way of moving with it and finding joy in whatever you can, wherever you can

I’m back open tomorrow 10-4

My last summer scent of 2026, although it’s not really an obviously summery scent at all.

The Rose House 🌱🤍

It’s delicate and fresh, like a bunch of freshly cut white roses. Soft rose petals, a little rose water and a gentle musky base. Just a really beautiful clean rose scent and I absolutely love it.

I did, however, completely underestimate how many boxes I needed 🙄 More are now on their way and should be with me next week.

I’m a little slow at the moment, but I’m cracking on and finding my feet again. Being in the shop, making things, scent, seeing you lot and Geoffrey, my 14 week old Labrador, are all making me smile.

And yesterday was a perfect example of that. Two lovely customers came to see me, one from Edinburgh and one from Essex. They meet up in York and apparently visiting my little shop has become an annual event for them I was extremely flattered that this year they made the trip over to Tadcaster to find me. Things like that really do mean a lot.

I’m not posting any more orders out until next week anyway, so hopefully my lack of boxes and my slightly slower pace will all come together perfectly

The Rose House is online now and in the shop.

And that’s the last of summer from me.

Have a wonderful bank holiday and im back open Tuesday

I’m open today from 10–4pm 🌿

Just follow your nose down the ginnel and you can be one of the first to smell my limited edition Pumpkin candle 🎃

I only have a small number of these rather lovely containers, so I’ll be putting them online and in the shop shortly on pre-order. Once they’re gone, I’ll continue the scent in a smaller amber jar.

The Rose House will also be on the shelves from today 🌱🕯️

And later today I’ll give you a little sneak peek on my stories of something rather exciting I have coming in for Christmas 🫣

Open 10–4 today. See you down the ginnel x

Yesterday I kept myself occupied pouring part of a pretty substantial order for one of our white label customers.

The amount of people who wandered past the door and said “it smells really good in there” was quite entertaining 😂 I think half of Tadcaster could probably smell what I was making.

I also had lots of really kind-hearted souls who came in simply to give me a hug. Every single one of them was very much appreciated right now ❤️

For the last six weeks I’ve been juggling work with so many visits to the care home, particularly over the last week. Then, just to add to everything, my car decided to break down at the care home too. So there’s been begging lifts from friends, borrowing family cars and generally just trying to keep everything going.

And now, suddenly, life feels very calm.

It’s a strange sort of calm because I’ve been running on adrenaline for so long. I’m back in the shop, pouring candles, chatting to customers and trying to find my way back into some sort of normal routine.

I’m taking each day as it comes. I might be a little all over at times, I might forget what I’m doing halfway through doing it, but for now it feels good to be here. And I’m incredibly grateful for all the kindness that’s been shown to me.

Open from just after ten x

My wonderful mum died on Friday .
I’ve tried to write this several times and even questioned if I needed to share this very personal information but as I’m still processing it myself there were things I felt I wanted to say .

I’ve got the next few days, weeks and months to somehow navigate and I don’t really know how I’m going to feel from one day to the next. I’m trying to be in the shop as normal. I think I need that bit of normality and I know Mum would want me to keep going. But please bear with me if I’m a bit wobbly, a bit forgetful, disappear into the back for five minutes or just don’t seem quite myself at the moment.

Mum was my mum but she was also my best friend. I could talk to her about anything but that was a few years ago before dementia took hold the relationship adapted and changed and even with those changes I honestly don’t know what it’s going to feel like not having her here anymore.

She was funny, glamorous, loving and definitely liked a bit of sparkle. Pink lipstick, sequins, glittery clothes and gold shoes. She loved perfume and getting dressed up and she was just very much… Mum.
The dementia took little bits of her along the way and there’s nothing you can do to stop it. There were times when it felt like I’d already lost parts of Mum, but then there would be a look, a smile or something she did and there she was again

I was lucky enough to spend time with Mum in her final days. I sat with her, held her hand, talked to her, sang to her and played her music. I told her how much I loved her and thanked her for everything. It was actually Mum that inspired me to make the Memories range originally . For the first year I worked with Dementia UK and part of the money from every sale went to them.

At the time I suppose it was my way of doing something when I felt pretty helpless and sharing moments of my childhood memories she’d given me through scent.
At some point I’ll do something named after her as it’s what I do , i don’t quite know what it will smell like yet. I just know I want it to somehow smell like her.A bit glamorous, warm, comforting, probably a little bit sparkly if you could make a fragrance sparkle( continued in comments)
