How we wash our fruit & vegetables at home
This simple habit has become part of our family routine, and yes... I do it with ALL fruit and vegetables, whether they’re organic or not.
Simply fill the sink with water and add:
- 1 tbsp bicarbonate of soda
- 3 drops doTERRA Lemon essential oil
Leave the berries to soak for a few minutes, the other produce leave for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Why do we do this?
- Fruit and vegetables can carry surface dirt, waxes, residues and traces of pesticides from growing, handling and transport.
- Bicarbonate of soda is known to help lift dirt and residues from the surface of produce.
- Lemon essential oil contains natural cleansing compounds and leaves everything smelling incredibly fresh.
It’s a simple extra step that helps me feel confident I’m serving cleaner produce to my family.
Even organic produce can pick up dirt, bacteria and residues during harvesting, packing and transportation, which is why we wash everything that comes into our home.
Small daily habits can make a big difference.
