🏡 New supported living location open in Preston

We're proud to have opened a new supported living location in Preston, in partnership with Progress Housing and Lancashire County Council.

People we support began moving in from March 2026, each of them individually supported throughout the process by our dedicated team. This significant milestone demonstrates our ongoing commitment to working with local partners to enable people we support to live life their own way, with safety and dignity as part of their local community.

Going somewhere new can often bring uncertainty because you don't know what to expect.

That's why we want to talk to you about a brilliant free tool that helps you find detailed accessibility information for places across the UK, from cafes and cinemas to parks, attractions and more.

AccessAble was created by Dr Gregory Burke from his own lived experience, recognising how challenging that uncertainty can be. For many people, having clear, detailed information beforehand can be the difference between feeling anxious and feeling confident enough to go.

From knowing if there’s step-free access, to understanding the layout of a space, that insight supports people make choices that work for them.

Today, it supports thousands of people to make informed choices about where they go and what they do, with detailed guides covering 👇

This year’s Learning Disability Week is all about people with learning disabilities being seen, heard and valued. We can’t think of a better time to celebrate the work of our amazing ACT team.

ACT is made up of 33 members from across England and Scotland and brings together people who engage, participate and communicate in different and unique ways. Together, they share ideas, advocate for change and help make things happen across Affinity Trust.

Over the past year, the team has focused on getting to know one another, building strong relationships and finding ways to work together that include everybody. Now, they're turning ideas into action, with a range of exciting projects already underway.

The ACT Team is a great example of what can happen when people are given opportunities to share their views, influence decisions and make a difference. We’re so grateful to them for getting involved and helping to make a positive impact on their communities. Keep an eye out here and on our website for future updates on their achievements.

Summer is full of opportunities to try something new if you want to 🌿

From accessible holidays to activity camps and day experiences, there are so many ways for people with learning disabilities and autism to connect, explore and have fun.

Organisations like Mencap, Sense and Calvert Devon offer a range of inclusive summer activities designed around choice, confidence and support.

Today marks the start of Learning Disability Week, and we want to celebrate the voices, achievements and contributions of people with learning disabilities.

This year’s theme is ‘Do you see me?’ and is all about making sure people with learning disabilities are seen, heard, and valued. It’s a chance for all of us to reflect on what it means to truly see people: to listen, to include, and to recognise the valuable contributions that people with learning disabilities make every day.

At Affinity Trust, we're proud to support people to live life their way: with choice, independence and opportunities to be active members of their communities. Together, we can help create a society where everyone is valued, included and empowered to thrive.

What’s your favourite song? 🎤

At our Working Together sessions, we hand over the microphone and ask everyone the same question.

Soon the room fills with suggestions, from colleagues, people we support and families - each sharing a song that means something to them. The result? A playlist created by everyone in the room. 🎶

It might seem like a small activity, but it captures something important. When everyone has the chance to share their voice, ideas and preferences, the experience becomes more personal, inclusive and meaningful.

And sometimes, it also introduces you to your new favourite song. 🎧

Creativity has been in full bloom at Score. 🌸

Matt, Gemma and Dan have been working on a seasonal project, creating their own Spring Blossom canvases. Each person painted tree trunks and branches before adding colourful buttons and sequins to create textured blossom.

Every piece is unique and reflects individual creativity and expression. The finished artwork is now proudly displayed in the gallery at Score, celebrating both effort and achievement.

Activities like this are a great way to support confidence, self-expression and creativity in a person-centred way.

Challenging assumptions, raising voices and creating change is Brendan’s mission. 💙

“I want to show the world that people with a learning disability can raise their voice and make a difference, whether we're singing Whitney Houston at the pub, standing up against bullies or protesting outside parliament."

His ambition doesn’t stop there. Brendan’s dream is to achieve equality for people with a learning disability and to one day start his own charity in Zimbabwe, where he was born.

We believe in supporting people to be heard, to speak up and to pursue their ambitions because everyone deserves the opportunity to make a difference.
