Award-winning artist Rosemary Maisonpierre has over 30 years’ experience in fine art. Rosemary works mainly in oil and acrylic, and particularly enjoys painting classical, realist still life. She seeks to portray how visually beautiful life can be, and paints with the eye of her heart to share how an item of everyday life can be transformed by the play of light, or its juxtaposition to another object. She thus invites the viewer to value the world around us, to be re-enchanted by the everyday objects we’re familiar with, to stop and consider the world anew even. While still life is a passion, Rosemary also paints vignettes of Mediterranean village life, evoking memories of warmth, sunshine and lazy days. Using a palette life and thick paint she recreates the worn surfaces of old walls and architecture, capturing the memory of a place, echoes of the passage of time. The themes can be simple, perhaps just a doorway for example, ordinary scenes which she finds both beautiful and compelling, which almost tell a story of their own, and offer a tantalising glimpse into the lives of others. Much of her work is the fruit of prayer and meditation, and Rosemary’s portfolio also extends to contemporary iconography, worked however in acrylic paint rather than the more traditional egg tempera. Twice winner of the HarperCollins Prize, Rosemary has exhibited with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Society of Women Artists, has had solo exhibitions in France and Belgium, and her work can be found in private collections all over the world.
