I will be attending this in person event next week and if you’re a woman in business and would like to attend let me know.

What should good networking actually give you?

For me, it has to be about so much more than walking into a room, handing out business cards and hoping something comes of it.

The right network can give you:

🤝 Trusted relationships with people who genuinely get to know you and your business

📣 Recommendations from women who understand what you do and feel confident introducing you to others

👀 Visibility — because the more people who know what you do, the more opportunities there are for your name to come up in the right conversations

đź’ˇ Ideas, support and collaboration from other women who understand the realities of running a business

✨ Opportunities you simply wouldn't have found sitting behind your desk

That’s what we’re building at Athena West Berkshire.

If you’d like to experience it for yourself, come and join us at Cappuccino Connections on Tuesday 8th September, 10am–12pm at City Arts, Newbury.

There’s no profession lockout for this event, so it’s a great opportunity to come along, meet our members and see what Athena is really about.

🎟 Visitors: £30, including Cappuccino Connections PLUS a visit to one of our online Athena meetings in September or October.

Comment NETWORK below to express your interest in attending ⏬

So, what would make networking worthwhile for your business this autumn? Let The Athena Network West Berkshire help you!

As Wegovy® pill prescriptions surpass 3 million, 1 filled roughly every 5 seconds, BANT renews its call to policy makers, health care leaders and regulatory bodies to ensure that anti-obesity medications (AOMs) are used safely, effectively and sustainably.

In a joint statement issued with the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine and CNM College of Naturopathic Medicine, BANt called for adequate safeguards and wraparound care for individuals using GLP-1 medications to include:

âś…assessing nutritional state before, during and after treatment

âś…assessing the drivers of obesity in an individualised and holistic way covering sleep quality, physical activity, sedentary behaviour, harmful substances (smoking/alcohol/drugs/prescribed medicines that cause weight gain), social isolation, mental wellbeing and nutrition

✅creating a person-centred care plan that asks, “what matters most to you right now about your health?”

âś…creating an individualised and supported plan that draws on available community support and the wider primary care multi-disciplinary team that can include nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, nutritional therapy practitioners, health coaches, mental health workers and social prescribing link workers

âś…a personalised follow-up plan including a plan for medication down-titration as required following rapid weight loss e.g. how to monitor blood sugar, blood pressure, side effects of medications affected by weight loss such as blood sugar lowering medicines, lithium, anti-coagulants, anti-hypertensives, anti-psychotics

What if one of the most powerful foods for emotional well-being is sitting in your pantry?

Flaxseed has long been valued for its omega-3 fats, fiber, and phytoestrogenic lignans. Now researchers are exploring another possibility: its connection to the oxytocin signaling pathway.

Oxytocin is often called the "love hormone," but its effects extend far beyond social bonding. It influences stress regulation, emotional resilience, and feelings of safety and connection.

In a recent molecular network analysis, flaxseed appeared to influence genes involved in oxytocin signaling and calcium-dependent communication pathways linked to anxiety regulation.

While more research is needed, I find these findings especially compelling because they reinforce a theme I've seen throughout nutrition science: Food doesn't simply nourish tissues. It shapes communication networks throughout the body.

From hormones to neurotransmitters to immune signaling, every meal is part of an ongoing conversation with our biology.

Perhaps one more reason to sprinkle a tablespoon of freshly ground flaxseed into your day. 🌱✨
