West Berkshire Therapy Centre

West Berkshire Therapy Centre We’re a specialised gym, with power assisted exercise equipment. We’re a registered charity and we rely on donations. All offers of help will be welcome.

Our facility is designed to support people from the local community by helping to strengthen their physical and mental well-being. West Berkshire Therapy Centre is located half way between Newbury and Thatcham. It is a very specialised gym, equipped with power-assisted exercise equipment, for the benefit of disabled people from the local community. Our extensive research has shown that this facili

ty will help people who suffer from a wide range of disabling conditions:
neurological disorders,
arthritis,
strokes,
cardiac or lung problems,
dementia,
post-operative rehabilitation,
learning difficulties and many others. Following assessment from one of our registered physiotherapists, Centre users will be able to receive exercise therapy provided by a range of carefully designed and selected machines, easing stiff or reluctant muscles, giving them more strength and co-ordination, helping also to manage weight, improve circulation, reduce the risks of serious health problems in later years and more feelings of well-being. We have considerable support from many local voluntary groups and many local clinicians. Our premises are just off Lower Way in Thatcham, so are easy to get to. Everything is on the ground floor, including a disabled loo and a small rest area. There is space for those in wheelchairs to get around and although the equipment is motorised, to provide the exercise therapy, it is quiet and enjoyable to use. Our staff will give a helping hand if needed and carers will be welcome. We are a not for profit charitable organisation and invite voluntary contributions at the lowest rates compatible with providing an excellent service for as many people as possible. We can also offer slight discounts to those who take out membership. You can support us with a donation via our website: http://www.westberkshiretherapycentre.org.uk/

Many disabled people find it difficult to take as much exercise as they want or as is generally recommended. Our power-assisted equipment provides the opportunity to move every major muscle in the body, with the equipment doing the work, so even very weak muscles can be exercised without effort from you. Not only is this generally good for your overall health, but the stronger you can get, the easier it is likely to be for you to carry out important tasks of daily living in safety and comfort. In due course we would also like to offer a community hydrotherapy pool. This needs a larger building and we continue to seek offers of help to secure a suitable plot of land. In the meantime our specialised power-assisted equipment may be able to make a big difference to your overall well-being. We are grateful for the support of:

💙 What makes West Berkshire Therapy Centre special?

At West Berkshire Therapy Centre, everything we do is guided by three important values:

🤝 We treat everyone with fairness, dignity and respect.
We are open, honest and courteous, and we believe everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect.

💙 We prioritise our clients’ needs.
Our clients are at the heart of everything we do. We continually strive to do everything we can to support them and help them get the most from their time at the Centre.

🌟 We proactively work together.
Our staff, volunteers, clients and supporters all play an important part in working together towards our shared goals and helping us continually improve.

These values are more than just words — they are at the heart of our charity and the community we have built together. ❤️

The Therapy Centre provides accessible, enjoyable and beneficial physical therapy for adults with disabilities, helping people maintain and improve their mobility and independence.

But we can’t do it alone.

💜 September is World Alzheimer's Month 💜

This month, we join organisations around the world in raising awareness of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, recognising the impact they have on individuals, families, friends and carers. Alzheimer's Month is an opportunity to increase understanding, reduce stigma and encourage supportive communities.

At West Berkshire Therapy Centre (WBTC), we have the privilege of supporting individuals with a variety of health conditions, including clients living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. We appreciate the daily challenges that memory loss, confusion and changes in cognitive function can bring, both for those affected and for the loved ones who support them.

We also recognise the importance of regular exercise and physical activity in helping to maintain mobility, strength, confidence, independence and social connection. Staying active can be a valuable part of supporting overall wellbeing and quality of life for many people living with dementia.

This World Alzheimer's Month, we celebrate the resilience of those living with dementia, acknowledge the dedication of carers and families, and reaffirm our commitment to helping people remain active, connected and supported within their community.

🌟 A Huge Thank You to and Our Amazing Supporters! 🌟

Earlier this year, Tesco Hungerford's token collection scheme awarded £1,000 to West Berkshire Therapy Centre.

This fantastic contribution helped towards the cost of our new Rotary Torso Plus, a specialist piece of equipment costing £9,051.67.

The remaining funding came from a wide range of grants, donations and fundraising efforts.
We are incredibly grateful to Tesco Hungerford and to everyone who has supported us. Your generosity helps us continue providing life-changing therapy and creates so many happy, smiling faces at our Centre every day. ❤️

If you'd like to help us purchase specialist equipment or help us with the running costs of the charity, please consider making a donation.

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us continue making a difference.

🌍 World Wellbeing Week – A Gentle Reminder to Care for YOU 🌿

As World Wellbeing Week comes to a close (24–30 June 2026), it’s a good moment to pause and check in with yourself.

Life can feel busy, overwhelming, or heavy at times — and looking after your wellbeing isn’t always easy. But even small steps can make a meaningful difference.

✨ Taking a moment to breathe
✨ Talking to someone you trust
✨ Moving your body
✨ Giving yourself permission to rest

At West Berkshire Therapy Centre, we’re here to support you — whether you’re navigating stress, anxiety, change, or just need someone to chat to whilst you’re doing your exercise.

The right environment can make exercise feel more accessible, safe, and motivating. When combined with our specialised gym equipment, physical activity becomes a key part of a holistic approach to wellbeing.

Making time for both mental and physical care allows you to reconnect with yourself, build resilience, and improve your overall quality of life.

Remember, looking after yourself isn’t a luxury—it’s essential. Small, consistent steps towards movement and self-care can lead to lasting positive change.

💬 If this week has reminded you to prioritise your wellbeing, take that step — we’re here when you’re ready.

💙Men’s Health Week 2026 | 15–21 June💙

It’s Men’s Health Week in the UK, a time to shine a light on the physical and mental health challenges that many men face, and to encourage open conversations about wellbeing, support, and seeking help when it’s needed. Men’s Health Week 2026 runs from 15–21 June and focuses on raising awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting healthier lives for men and boys.

Too often, men put their own health last. Whether it’s living with a long-term condition, recovering from illness or injury, managing stress, or simply finding time to focus on wellbeing, taking that first step can make a real difference.

Here in Thatcham, the West Berkshire Therapy Centre provides a welcoming environment where people can improve their strength, mobility, confidence and overall wellbeing through specialist power-assisted exercise equipment and tailored support. The Centre helps individuals living with a wide range of health conditions stay active and connected within their community.

This Men’s Health Week, let’s encourage the men in our lives to:

✅ Prioritise their physical health
✅ Talk openly about mental wellbeing
✅ Stay active and connected
✅ Seek support when they need it
✅ Take small steps towards a healthier future

Every conversation matters. Every step counts.

🎉Our new machines have arrived 🎉

Exciting times for our Therapy Centre 💪
We’ve had 3 new power assisted pieces of equipment delivered this week.

Our lovely volunteer Amanda demonstrates the new pieces for you in the pictures:

👉Tummy Crunch
👉Ab Pullover
👉Rotary Torso

Our power-assisted exercise equipment accommodates people who are unable to attend conventional gyms. The machines allow our clients to put in as much or as little physical effort as they wish, whilst helping to maintain and strengthen their muscles, which helps to prevent or delay further deterioration in muscle function.

You can review and learn more about each piece of equipment by visiting our page about the gym below: https://www.westberkshiretherapycentre.org.uk/gym
