Better late than never! Here’s our June guest producer line-up 👇

I may be a little late posting this month’s guest producer line-up as I’m currently on holiday, but it’s business as usual at Thehiddenlanethurso! 😊

The lane will be open as normal this Friday and Saturday, with Rosenda Miller at LRM Trading Ltd and Teagan Williamson & Catriona Manson at Natures Path Natural Ways keeping everything running smoothly while I make my way home.

From Saturday, normal service resumes and we’re kicking off a busy month of fantastic local producers.

We have had an amazing day today, thank you to Sìdh C Art for organising and inviting us to take part in the Carnival of Plants festival at Forse Of Nature.

I am blown away with the Incredible feedback from today’s foraging & mocktail sessions.

It really means a lot as I do spend days stressing over planning events, I might never managed to do half of what is on my list before hand but everything seems to come together at the last minutes 🙏

We had so much fun sharing, connecting with nature and each others and creating some awesome drinks with plants 🌱

Ah Ok, yes we had a few disappointed there was something missing in their drinks but now you have lots more inspiration to be able to create your own alcoholic versions 🍸🍹

Thank you to all who attended the sessions today and for supporting an amazing event.

It’s been a busy weekend with more prep tomorrow for a private session on Tuesday then it’s time to get packed and ready to go on a wee break/holiday when I might just sleep 😴 for the whole week 😉🤣

Looking forward to more foraging events after we are back from our holiday.

Thank you to the lovely ladies who attended yesterday’s foraging walk.
Although a little breezy and colder than today, I think everyone still had an enjoyable afternoon and warmed up with a cuppa back at the shop.

Sweet cicely season is here 🌿✨

This week I’m making a batch of sweet cicely syrup. It might be ready for the weekend 🤞 With its delicate aniseed flavour and natural sweetness, it’s one of those old-fashioned herbs that feels a little bit magical — perfect in sparkling water, cocktails, desserts, over fresh fruit or drizzled over ice-cream it makes a wonderful palette cleanser between courses.

A little foraging note though ☠️If foraging, please be 100% sure you have correctly identified any plant or mushroom before consuming. Sweet cicely belongs to a family of plants that has several very similar look-a-likes, some of which are highly poisonous.

We spent years looking for sweet cicely, convinced it was just another plant we wouldn’t find in Caithness. Every time we saw cow parsley growing everywhere, we wondered if maybe that was it — but the key identifying features were never quite right. Then one day, a patch of bright green caught my eye as I drove past. Once we’d properly identified it, we started noticing it in so many places along the roadside and hedgerows.

There’s something really special about finally learning to recognise a plant you’ve searched for for years — and even better when you can turn it into something delicious. 🌱
