Black Pepper – PIPER NIGRUM, it’s a yes from Me!

Aka “Black Gold” aka “The King of the Spices”

Black pepper was a cherished commodity in Greece and Rome and reached even higher popularity in the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

Today, most of our black pepper comes from Vietnam 39% and Indonesia 15%.

The health benefits of black pepper are due to the bioactive compounds, in particular piperine which is the most important.

Piperine’s powers........

⚕️It’s a type of antioxidant

⚕️Increases the bioavailability of various nutrients particularly curcumin from turmeric, selenium, and beta-carotene, by increasing their absorption in the intestines and inhibiting certain digestive enzymes

⚕️Stimulates hydrochloric acid in the stomach which aids digestion and absorption of food

⚕️It has carminative properties which can help reduce discomfort and gas build up in the intestines

⚕️It helps the immune system and has a role in boosting white blood cells to help the body fight off invading bacteria and viruses

⚕️It also assists in cognitive brain function

Why did I never know this?

P.s. I ❤️ the little clay dish I made at the amazing Fennel workshop , thankyou xx

We need your help! Make your voice heard on pesticides…tell the Government you don’t want the dangerous herbicide glyphosate in your gardens, parks, playgrounds and public spaces. ✋

This is urgent.

In December, the Government will decide if it will renew the glyphosate licence. This licence could run until 2041…

• That’s 15 more years of devastating impacts on earthworms and bees.
• 15 years of glyphosate damage to soils and run-off into ponds and rivers.
• 15 years of glyphosate leaching into your food.

If you think that’s unacceptable, sign our petition NOW to ban this dangerous herbicide.🚫

You can:
📢 Add your name to our petition, write to your MP, and find out more about our campaign at www.gardenorganic.org.uk/glyphosate-campaign.
📢Learn about the dangers of glyphosate – and alternatives for use - at gardenorganic.org.uk/glyphosate.
📢 Like, share and shout about this post to spread the word about this campaign!

To help me, I've been putting together these slides as a quick visual guide to which foods to eat for the different minerals we need.

It's a work in progress, but I thought I'd share, just in case it helps.

I'd be interested to know what resources help you as the information out there can be very overwhelming.

Just couldn't resist zooming in on the wild hedgerow flowers of Mallorca. April is such a beautiful time to visit.

These were snapped on a five minute walk down the lane.

The magic of the colours & the incredible geometric patterns of the smallest of flowers never fail to amaze.

Hunting it out has become quite an obsession! 💕🙏🔎
