The Simple Life 🪨
I’ve just got back from a week in Fontainebleau, France, and damn do I feel good right now 🤸♀️
Seven days of climbing, walking, laughing, and spending more time outdoors than I have in a long time gave me exactly what I needed: space to slow down, reconnect with myself, and reflect.
And one of the things I found myself reflecting on most was my relationship with yoga.
Recently, my yoga practice has looked very different, partly because of injury, partly because I’m teaching less, and partly because life has changed a lot over the past few months.
I haven’t been spending as much time on my mat as I once did, and for a while I found myself questioning what that meant 🧐
But this trip reminded me of something that I hadn’t forgotten, but perhaps hadn’t prioritised.
Yoga isn’t just a physical practice, and it certainly isn’t something that only exists on the mat 🪷
The postures are one part of it, but the deeper practice is learning how to be in relationship with ourselves and the world around us.
It’s learning to pay attention.
To notice.
To be present.
And to meet life as it comes rather than constantly rushing towards what’s next.
And while I didn’t spend much time on an actual yoga mat last week, I found myself practising yoga every day 🌳 in quiet moments, in conversations with friends, and in slowing down enough to appreciate where I was 🌳
Of course, I still love practising on my mat and after a week away, I can’t wait to get back to it. But I think it’s important to remember that yoga can be practised anywhere. When we approach life with intention and awareness, its teachings have a way of seeping into every aspect of our lives🧘🏼♀️
Anyway this post is mostly just to say, hi, I’m back 👋
And if you’ve had some time away from your mat too, and are feeling called to reconnect with the physical side of your practice, I’d love to see you in the studio:
