ℹ Adrenal Glands and Adrenal Hormones

Usually you have two adrenal glands, each the size of a walnut, sitting on top of each kidney. They make several hormones that help keep salt, water and blood pressure in balance, as well as to cope with stress.

When the adrenal glands make too much or too little of one or more hormones, this can cause a variety of symptoms. More than normal amounts of adrenal hormones can be caused by a tumour or cancer in the gland, like adrenocortical cancer (ACC).

This World Hormone Day, be hormone aware!

Thanks to our members for participating. 🙏

When liquid hydrocortisone was discontinued, we took action. We contacted the Department of Health and Social Care - DHSC and Pfizer on ACT-O-VIAL® availability. We asked you to write to your MPs using our letter templates. Over 90 of you copied us into your MP emails so we could take follow-up action.

📩 Our latest member email (sent this evening - check your inbox!) shares a behind-the-scenes progress update.

This email has been sent to all ADSHG members, and also to non-members who are involved with this campaign through writing to their MPs and copying us in. Thank you to our campaign supporters 🙌

Members can also read this update on our online members forum (log-in required) 🔗 https://loom.ly/3rGh2Fk

This is a continuously evolving situation. But thanks to your voices, awareness is growing, not just about adrenal insufficiency, including Addison’s disease, but also about adrenal crisis management.

📣 Take action following the discontinuation of hydrocortisone sodium phosphate by contacting your MP.
Your voice matters. Whether you live with adrenal insufficiency, or support someone who does, we need you to speak up by writing to your MP and help drive change.
This is more than a medication issue, it's a serious patient safety concern that puts lives at risk. In an adrenal crisis, every second counts. Sharing your personal experience helps MPs understand the real impact.
📝 Use ADSHG's ready-made template to email or post to your MP. It only takes a couple of minutes! ⤵️
https://loom.ly/yR0adyk
💻 Tip: We recommend downloading the letter template on a laptop or computer, where the download file is easier to locate than on a mobile phone.
The more people who contact their MP, the stronger our voice. Thank you for helping make change happen.

Let your MP know how you feel about the discontinuation of the manufacture of liquid hydrocortisone in the UK. A template letter for you to fill out and post to your MP (or equivalent in the devolved nations), or to copy and paste into an email.
