As a Nutritional Therapist, I’m often asked about supplements. The UK supplements industry is now worth around £3.7bn and growing, so all of us will have been told we desperately need something or other at some point.

There are some great products out there and some that I wouldn’t take if you paid me!

Food should always come first and I have always said you can’t supplement your way out of a bad diet!

But the problem with uni is that the diet is likely to be fairly hit and miss.

For me and all my family we take fruit and veg capsules daily.

I take them as an insurance policy for our rapidly declining food quality, they can help to reduce inflammation which is the root of most our modern day illnesses.

The fact that children up to age 21 get them for free was an added bonus. It gives me peace of mind that they are getting some of what they need, natural food based vitamins, minerals and polyphenols (plant chemicals that are really good for you) easy for the body to absorb.

No it won’t mean that the bad diet is fine, but it might just support them so they get ill less often and help to detox after a night on the booze. And it certainly makes me feel a little better about it too!

There are many different ways we can use the breath, beyond keeping us alive from the moment we’re born.

That long slow exhale an immediate tool to signal safety to the nervous system. But what if we need more to help to retrain the nervous system and bring long term safety?

That’s where the conscious connected breathwork can go deeper than relaxation, open up the breath and allow us to integrate pain or emotions stored in the body.

Interested to see for yourself? My next workshop is at a beautiful venue in Tonbridge on 16th September. Link in bio to book.

Our breath changes throughout the day and,if you’re a woman, it will even change throughout your cycle.

Whatever time of day it is, it can be really powerful just to pause and take stock. Notice where the breath is and how your body is feeling.

There are times when my ribs feel tight and restricted and times when the breath flows more freely. This always aligns with how my nervous system is feeling too.

Opening up with breath is a gradual process which can bring beautiful benefits. But before we start to open, we just need to notice and become aware of how we breathe in the first place and how it changes with how we feel inside. 💕❤️

We live in a world that often makes us feel like resting is cheating.

The truth is that resting and giving the body time to recover is winning. It’s absolutely what our bodies need.

Adding small pauses and resets into our day like time away from a screen, a gentle walk outside, just staring out the window.

All these small actions give our stressed our nervous system a chance to pause, to rest and recharge.

Why not give it a go and see how you feel. 💕🙏

So many of my clients don’t sleep well. But what if it wasn’t about what they’re doing at night but the day time too?

Rest is pausing our activity. But recovery is actually recharging the battery. This is really quite hard on our ‘always on’ society.

Sitting on the sofa scrolling may be rest but taking a short walk outside could be active recovery.

Collapsing with the TV on in the background may be rest but gentle stretching or yoga may be active recovery.

Taking some deep breaths throughout the day also provides some time for our nervous systems to rest and recover. Recharge the battery.

So if you notice that your stress response is more on than off and when you get to collapse at the end of the day, your heart is still racing. Think about what you can do for a bit of active recovery to calm that cortisol before bed.

P.S my next breath workshop is on Wednesday 16th September in Tonbridge if you’re ready to really reset for the Autumn. 💕❤️

In today’s chaotic world, it’s very hard to stop and just be, to pause, to do nothing and really truly stop to rest and recharge our bodies. But doing so can really help all those things, the mood, the energy and the focus.

I learned the hard way that if you never stop to give time to yourself, eventually the body forces you to slow down.

So now more than ever, I believe we all need to find ways to pause, to reflect and connect to our bodies and just notice how we truly feel.

Only when we stop do we notice……..

September’s breath circle is there for you to open your heart to the new season and connect with your body,

I’d love to welcome you to come breathe with me. Link in bio to book

Ok so we can only create this for breakfast in the holidays but the value of a protein rich breakfast shouldn’t be underestimated.

If you’re heading into a stress filled day at work, a quick piece of toast and jam can fuel that stress further.

It will give that sugar high then by 10 that blood sugar dip which puts further stress on the body.

Try adding some protein at breakfast and allowing the glucose to release slowly into the bloodstream for sustained energy throughout the morning. More focus, more energy and a much happier nervous system ready to manage the stresses of the day. 😀

This dry weather means that lots of people are struggling with hayfever.

If your sinuses are getting blocked from constant hayfever congestion. Try this simple exercise to clear your sinuses.

Feeling fine? Save it for the winter. 😀

Take a normal breath in through the nose.

Take a normal breath out through the nose.

Gently pinch your nose and hold your breath

Tilt your head slowly to the left

Tilt your head slowly to the right

Tilt your head backwards

Tilt your head forwards

Come back to neutral position

Breathe in gently through your nose

Breathe out through your nose

Repeat until your nose is clear.

I’d love to hear if it helps 💕❤️

Between meetings, before you open that email, before you get home after work. Feel your feet flat on the floor and take 3 slow deep breaths. As slow as you can go. Release any tension from your jaw and drop your shoulders.

You have just given yourself a beautiful little nervous system reset.

Incorporate into your day several times to help manage chronic stress and support energy.

Save this to remind yourself next time you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed you have the power to change how you feel. 😀💕
