🍂 The -BER months are here… 🍂

The children are back at school, the routines are returning, and after a busy summer, perhaps it’s time to recharge and think about you too. ❤️

A quiet cup of tea, a little rest, some time to yourself… and maybe a little love for your feet after months of sandals and bare feet. 🦶🧦

Our feet carry us through so much, every single day, and sometimes they just need a little extra care and attention.

So as the evenings get cosier and the socks come back out, take a little time for yourself.

Warm socks, happy feet and a little TLC. 🍂❤️

I’m looking for a very special lady… and I’d love your help! ❤️

I’m hoping someone in Staplehurst might remember this story — or, even better, that the lady herself might see this!

I think it was around September/October 2020, during lockdown and all the social distancing. I was at SPAR in Staplehurst, and at the time I was working as a veterinary nurse.

I’d been chatting to a gentleman who asked if I could cut his dog Charlie’s nails, as obviously lots of routine things weren’t happening during Covid. Charlie was a Labrador, so this was very much within my comfort zone! 🐾😂

I got back into my car and, as I was sitting there, a lady came up to my window and asked if I could cut her nails because her chiropodist had recently retired.

My response was something along the lines of: “Oh my gosh, no!” 😂

I explained that I was a veterinary nurse and that Charlie was a dog — not a human!

I drove home and told my mum about the strangest thing that had just happened. She laughed and thought I was completely nuts!

But… that little encounter stayed with me.

I had already been interested in footcare, particularly because my grandad had diabetes and suffered serious lower-limb complications as a result. My dad and brother also have diabetes, so it was something I was already incredibly passionate about.

But I had never considered it as a career, let alone imagined retraining after 20 years as a veterinary nurse.

And yet, that random conversation outside SPAR somehow planted the seed.

Fast forward to now, and I absolutely LOVE what I do. ❤️

So, if you are that lady — or if you think you know who she might be — please get in touch!

I’d absolutely love the chance to say thank you. ❤️

You probably had no idea at the time, but that little conversation outside SPAR completely changed the direction of my working life.

You unknowingly helped me find a career I absolutely love. And if you’d like, I’d be very happy to cut your nails this time! 😂❤️

Maybe it really was fate after all. ✨

So please, if you’re local to Staplehurst, give this a share. Somewhere out there is the lady who unknowingly changed my career — and I’d really love to find her and say thank you. ❤️

🎉 Year 2 — Successfully Completed! 🎉

Another year of hard work, challenges, learning and growth — and I’m so proud to say that Year 2 of my Podiatry degree is officially complete! 👣🎓

It hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has helped me grow in confidence, knowledge and experience. I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported and encouraged me throughout this journey. ❤️

A special thank you to my fabulous study buddy, whose support, encouragement and teamwork have made such a difference. I’m also so grateful for my inspirational fellow classmates, who continue to motivate me and make this journey so special. 👣✨

A huge thank you to the fantastic podiatrist who welcomed me on placement, shared his knowledge and supported my learning. Your guidance and encouragement have been invaluable, and I’m truly grateful for the experience. 👣

And, of course, a huge thank you to my family for putting up with all the chaos and supporting me throughout it all. ❤️

I’m now halfway through my four-year course and one step closer to becoming the podiatrist I aspire to be! 👣✨

Now it’s time to celebrate this achievement and get ready for Year 3! 🙌🎓

👣 A little Thursday foot check! 👣

When was the last time you actually stopped and thought about how your feet are feeling?

We ask ourselves if our back hurts, our shoulders are tense or whether we’re tired… but our feet carry us around all day, every day, and they often get forgotten! ❤️

So, how are your feet?

🌸 Dry or cracked heels?
👣 Hard skin or corns?
✂️ Nails that are difficult to manage?
😣 Sore or uncomfortable feet?
🦶 Or are they feeling absolutely fabulous?!

Whatever your feet are telling you, don’t just put up with discomfort.

Sometimes a little professional foot care can make such a difference to how your feet feel—and how you feel walking around in them!

If you’d like to chat about your feet or book an appointment, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

❤️ This is something that is super close to my heart…

I wanted to share this because diabetes awareness and prevention is something I feel incredibly passionate about, for both personal and professional reasons.

I had gestational diabetes during two of my pregnancies with my boys, so I know first-hand that it can feel like a lot to take in when you’re pregnant and suddenly faced with a diagnosis.💙💙

Diabetes has also affected two very important men in my life, who live with type 2 diabetes, and my wonderful Grandad, who sadly passed away 12 years ago, experienced many diabetes-related complications. 💙💙💙

These experiences have made me really passionate about raising awareness, encouraging prevention where possible, and helping to slow or reduce the changes and complications associated with diabetes.

So when I saw the recent news that gestational diabetes diagnoses in England have risen sharply, I felt it was something I really wanted to share.

A major study found that diagnoses increased from around 8% of pregnancies in 2018 to more than 12% in 2022 — meaning around 1 in 8 mothers are now diagnosed.

Gestational diabetes can increase the risk of complications during pregnancy and birth, but what’s particularly important is that it can also increase a woman’s future risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

The message I really want to share is this:

💗 Your health matters after pregnancy too.

Once your baby arrives, it’s so easy for your own health to take a back seat. But if you’ve experienced gestational diabetes, it’s important to continue attending your health checks and talking to your healthcare professionals about your individual risk.

And as a footcare professional, I see how important diabetes awareness is when it comes to looking after our feet too. 👣

Healthy feet are something we can sometimes take for granted, but diabetes can have a significant impact on foot health. Early awareness, regular checks and seeking help when something doesn’t look or feel right can make such a difference.

This is a subject that is very close to my heart, and if sharing my own experiences encourages even one person to take their health a little more seriously, then it’s worth talking about. ❤️

Please feel free to share this post and help me spread the word.

This post is for general awareness and isn’t intended to replace advice from your GP, diabetes team, midwife or other healthcare professional.

Diagnoses of gestational diabetes in England have risen by 60 per cent in five years, with the highest rates seen among Asian women and those living in more deprived areas.

☀️ A day of admin… with a little biscuit trial thrown in! 🍪👣

It’s been an admin kind of day — catching up on all those jobs that aren’t quite as exciting as looking after feet! 😂

I’ve also been trialling some biscuits with a Staplehurst Footcare stamp on them… and I’m pleased to say they’re looking MUCH better than my last attempt! 😂🍪

Now, if only I could make the admin disappear as quickly as the biscuits do! 😋

It’s certainly a hot one today 🥵☀️ and with the school holidays in full swing, I hope you’re all managing to enjoy the sunshine — whether that means days out, keeping the kids entertained, or just finding somewhere cool!

👣 Competition update: results coming very soon… keep an eye on the page! 👀

What are you all up to today? ☀️👣
