Holsworthy Primary School and Nursery in Devon received a visit recently from our Oral Health Facilitator Helena, to support the setting and observe the brushing in action.

The staff were all engaged and supportive throughout. The staff delivered the programme effortlessly with all children brushing together using a clear routine, simple cues, and great organisation.
Everyone followed the same steps, brushed together, and finished quickly - turning it into a calm, efficient activity.

We love the display board they had created, and the teacher was keen for information regarding diet and teeth to deliver to parents to further support the children.

Congratulations to all the staff and children at Holsworthy Primary and Nursery!

BSPD, Jam Up! and Brush DJ launch two new videos supporting autistic children’s oral health.

Many autistic children find the sensations and sounds of toothbrushing difficult, and visiting the dentist can cause anxiety. The new videos aim to dispel myths, reduce fear, and help parents and carers prioritise the most important steps to support a child’s oral health. Developed collaboratively by experts in children’s oral health, specialists in autism, and parents of autistic children, the films offer practical, reassuring guidance for families for whom preventive care and dental visits can sometimes feel overwhelming.

We really appreciate the many people and organisations that helped produce these invaluable videos, including: JaM Up, Brush DJ, Henry Schein UK and Dr Ella Roberts from Carriage Works Dental.

Happy National Smile Month!

To celebrate, here is another tip to help keep your children's teeth strong and healthy.

Once teeth have been brushed, your child should spit out the toothpaste but not rinse their mouth so the fluoride continues to have a beneficial effect on the teeth for as long as possible.

At Home Dental's Big Brush Club was on BBC Radio Wiltshire this week! We were delighted to have been invited by the NHS to share oral health education and promotion at two events. Alisha attended the Five Rivers Leisure Centre in Salisbury and Pippa the Big Breakfast in Swindon.

Our team had a great time sharing information and resources with the public, working alongside other NHS health professionals and meeting the lovely presenters from the BBC! Alisha was able to share on BBC Wiltshire's 'The Wake Up Call' some top tips for good oral health and about our outreach across Wiltshire and Swindon, including the supervised toothbrushing programme which has over 7000 children participating in the BSW ICB region. Also At Home Dental are delivering oral health champion training to workforces, including care staff across the region funded by B&NES, Swindon and Wiltshire Councils. What a morning!

We served 111 breakfasts, with guests, volunteers and staff speaking live throughout the morning on BBC Wiltshire's Wake Up Call with Ben Prater.

Thank you so much to the amazing groups that came to provide health advice including Big Brush Club, Change Grow Live, The Hepatitis C Trust, Xyla - Healthcare Services, Swindon Prostate Cancer Support Group, Voluntary Action Swindon (VAS), the wonderful ladies from the NHS providing blood pressure checks and advice, and Swindon Borough Council's Live Well Stop Smoking service and Rough Sleeper Team. Not to mention all of the support from Zurich Community Trust in setting up this event. (I hope we haven't missed anyone).

And, of course, a huge thank you to our amazing team of volunteers and staff who kept everything running so smoothly on such a busy and exciting morning.
