👅 Which of these tongues looks most like yours?

Our tongues offer fascinating clues about what’s happening beneath the surface.

From colour and coating to cracks and scalloped edges, different tongue features may be associated with different patterns in Chinese Medicine.

Swipe through to see some of the tongue types I commonly assess in clinic and the lifestyle and dietary advice that might support each pattern.

Do you recognise your own tongue in any of these examples?

Tell me which slide sounds most like you 👇

(And yes, I absolutely look at my own tongue every morning too!)

Did you know acupuncture is used for much more than aches and pains?

The World Health Organization has published reports identifying dozens of conditions for which acupuncture has been studied and may offer therapeutic benefit. These range from musculoskeletal pain and headaches to digestive complaints, women’s health concerns, sleep issues, and more.

While acupuncture isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, it can be a valuable part of a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.

Swipe through to discover some of the conditions commonly treated with acupuncture.

Tai Chi is more than just movement—it’s a practice of balance, awareness, and presence.

The slow, deliberate movements help improve strength, mobility, coordination, and focus while encouraging the nervous system to shift out of “fight or flight” and into a more restorative state.

For me, it’s also an important part of self-care. Taking time to cultivate calm, grounded energy helps me show up fully for the people I work with each day. Supporting others starts with looking after my own wellbeing, so I can be present, attentive, and offer the best care possible.

What do you do to reconnect with yourself? 🌿

Nature doesn’t bloom continuously, and neither do we.
There are seasons for movement, growth, activity — and seasons for rest, integration, and replenishment.
In Chinese medicine, both are necessary.

If it feels like your mind is always busy and you can’t relax, this one is for you! 😊

One of my favourite acupuncture points for calming the mind and regulating the nervous system. Located between the brows, Yin Tang is often used to help reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep quality, and guide the body back into a parasympathetic ‘rest and restore’ state.

This is especially important in fertility care, where chronic stress can influence the hypothalamic-pituitary axis — the communication pathway between the brain, hormones and reproductive system.

When the nervous system feels safe and supported, the body is better able to return to balance.

Sometimes the body simply needs permission to slow down 🤍

One of the most common post-treatment questions 😂

Falling asleep during treatment is incredibly common — and often a sign the body has shifted out of stress mode and into a true rest-and-repair state.

Modern life keeps so many of us mentally switched on, overstimulated, and rarely truly rested. One of the things I notice most in clinic is how quickly the body responds when it’s finally given a quiet, safe space to slow down.

Deep rest isn’t laziness, and it isn’t something to feel guilty for. It’s often where regulation, repair and healing begin 🤍

No judgement. No gold stars for staying awake ✨

We are super excited to welcome Rachel McCaslin to our team of volunteer therapists as our new acupuncturist. Rachel is working on Tuesday mornings and we are taking bookings now! Rachel trained in the prestigious College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading. Rachel practices an integrated style combining Traditional Chinese Medicine with the Five Element approach, allowing uniquely tailored treatments.

“My journey into acupuncture began during my own fertility journey, when I experienced firsthand the powerful benefits of this ancient medicine. I work to support the body’s natural healing process by addressing the root causes of imbalance—not just the symptoms—while nurturing harmony across the mind, body, and spirit. Acupuncture uses very fine needles—about the width of a human hair—and most people hardly feel them when they’re inserted. Treatments are generally very relaxing, even for those who may feel nervous about needles at first. In addition to acupuncture, I also offer complementary therapies including cupping, gua sha, electro-acupuncture and moxibustion (moxa), which can further enhance the effectiveness of treatment and overall wellbeing”.
