⚓ Meet Nigel, one of our Pharmacy First ambassadors and a local fisherman who knows how important it is to have quick and convenient access to healthcare.

After long mornings at sea, Nigel values being able to visit his local pharmacy for advice and treatment for common health concerns.

The NHS Pharmacy First service means you can get advice and, where appropriate, treatment from your local pharmacist for 7 common conditions, without needing to see a GP first:

✅ Sinusitis (adults and children aged 12+)
✅ Sore throat (adults and children aged 5+)
✅ Earache (children aged 1–17)
✅ Infected insect bites (adults and children aged 1+)
✅ Impetigo (adults and children aged 1+)
✅ Shingles (adults aged 18+)
✅ Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (women aged 16–64)

Our Pharmacy First ambassadors are helping to raise awareness of this NHS service and encourage people to think pharmacy first when they need help with these common conditions.

🩸Have you been told by a clinician that you need to have your blood tested, but don’t know where to go? There’s a range of places across Torbay and South Devon where you can have your blood taken for testing (called phlebotomy).

📆 You can book an appointment at our outpatient departments at:

Torbay Hospital, Monday to Friday from 8.30am-5pm
Brixham Hospital from 9am-1.20pm on Tuesdays and Fridays
Paignton Health and Wellbeing Centre, Wednesdays, 8.30am-3.40pm.

👩🏻‍⚕️Your GP can also arrange an appointment at your local surgery however, if your GP surgery is one of the following, please arrange for your blood test at Torbay or Brixham Hospital:

• Mayfield Medical Centre (all practices).

We are really sorry, but due to staffing challenges we've made the difficult decision to close Totnes Minor Injuries Unit from today until 8am Tuesday 21 July.

Our urgent treatment centre at Newton Abbot is open if you need treatment for urgent but non-life-threatening issues like minor burns, sprains, or insect bites.

The UK Health Security Agency have issued a yellow heat-health alert for the South West. The alert is currently in place from 12pm Saturday 4 July to 8pm Saturday 11 July.

There is likely to be a rise in the use of health care services by vulnerable populations, and an increase in risk to health for individuals over the age of 65 or with pre-existing health conditions, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
