Why are we taught CPR but not what dying actually looks like?

Why are we taught how to preserve life but not how to support the end of it?

Why do so many families reach the bedside of somebody they love feeling frightened, emotionally overwhelmed, and completely unprepared for what they are witnessing?

Not because they do not care. But because nobody ever taught them.

Nobody explained:
• that eating and drinking often changes
• that sleeping increases
• that withdrawal can be normal
• that hearing may remain even at the very end
• that fear often reduces when understanding increases

Death is one of the most universal human experiences we will ever face and yet so many people are expected to navigate it with little confidence, knowledge, or emotional preparation.

That is why death literacy matters.

Not to make dying clinical and not to make life fearful. But to help people feel more compassionate, informed, emotionally supported, and less alone.
