We’re ending National Carers Week by sharing a poem written by one of our incredible team members, Jim.

Beautiful and honest words from the lived experience of a support worker who has also been through his own ADHD journey.

It’s National Carers Week 💙

Behind so many positive outcomes are carers providing support, encouragement, and understanding every single day.

This Carers Week, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to all carers for the incredible work you do.

Whether you’re supporting a family member, friend, or someone in your professional role, you’re helping people live fulfilling, independent and meaningful lives.

If you’re looking for a wheelchair-friendly experience in Cornwall, check out Wetwheels South West.

Last month, S and her wonderful Kerensa Care team had a day to remember on the water in Falmouth.

Their speed-boat experience was full of excitement, confidence-building, and pure joy - just look at those smiles!

The highlight for S was getting to steer the boat herself. Thank you Wetwheels South West for creating accessible adventures that open up the world to everyone and create core memories.

Save this post for your next accessible day out in Cornwall, or send to a friend who would LOVE this boating experience.

Last week some of our team spent the day with Tigger Pritchard, taking part in a specialist PDA training. 🧩

The PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) training is an important step in preparation to support a young man with PDA as he moves into his new bungalow.

A huge thank you to Tigger for sharing his expertise, insight, and passion!

Our team came away feeling more confident, informed, and ready to provide the compassionate, low‑demand support the young man deserves. 💛

Thank you Tigger! 🙌

Sensory support looks different for everyone. 🌈

For autistic adults and people with complex learning disabilities, having access to sensory-friendly tools can help create comfort, calm, focus, and reassurance throughout the day.

A sensory box doesn’t need to be expensive or complicated.

Small, personalised items can make a meaningful difference.

In this post, we’re sharing some simple DIY sensory box ideas designed for adults and sensory-friendly spaces.

What sensory items have worked well for you or the people you support?

POV: trying to survive the UK heatwave 😅

Whilst it’s lovely to finally have some sunshine in the UK, hot weather can be especially overwhelming for autistic adults and people with complex learning disabilities.

Heat, noise, bright light, disrupted routines and sensory overload can quickly become exhausting.

Here are some tips for keeping safe in the heat:

🥤 Keep hydrated - little and often.
🧊 Use cool spaces, fans, cold flannels or sensory-friendly cooling items.
🕶️ Reduce sensory overwhelm where possible - quieter spaces, dimmer rooms and comfortable clothing can really help.
⏰ Keep routines flexible and allow extra rest breaks.
😣 Avoid busy or overstimulating environments.
💛 Check in with each other and look out for signs that someone may be struggling with the heat.

Stay safe, stay cool, and remember to be kind to yourself and others!
