The Mayo Clinic studied over 3k people; some people with bulging disks have zero pain.
You have a CT or MRI and are told the abnormality is causing pain, but they aren't using control studies; they are not comparing scans to people without pain.
Bulging disks don't necessarily equal pain, which is why the surgery may not help.
