Have you had to visit multiple pharmacies recently to find your medication, only to be told that stock is unavailable?

This can be frustrating, worrying and sometimes even affect treatment. Medicine shortages become a daily reality for pharmacy teams - as Community Pharmacy England has accurately described it as a “Distressing New Normal” for the sector.

What many patients may not realise is the scale of the challenges community pharmacies are facing each day.
Years of inadequate NHS funding, rapidly rising medicine costs, ongoing medicine shortages affecting hundreds of medicines, and the closure of over 1000 pharmacies across England have placed enormous pressure on the sector.
At the same time community pharmacies are being asked to deliver an expanding range of crucial NHS services to help relieve pressure on GP surgeries and hospitals. Every pharmacy closure means fewer healthcare services available locally and greater pressure on those that remain.

Despite these pressures our pharmacy teams continue to show up every day for their communities. What many patients don’t see is the work taking place behind the scenes. Pharmacy teams spend long hours every day contacting suppliers, checking alternative wholesalers, liaising with Gp surgeries, sourcing stock, resolving prescription issues and helping patients navigate medication shortages while continuing to provide essential NHS services.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during these difficult times. Please know that pharmacy teams across the country are working tirelessly to help patients access the treatments they need, despite challenges that are often beyond their control.

Thank you for supporting your local pharmacy.💚

Scabies Alert – Important Information for Patients

We are currently seeing an increase of cases of scabies in the close community.
Scabies is a contagious skin condition that spreads through close contact. To ensure effective treatment and prevent reinfestation, it is essential that all members of your household and close contacts are treated at the same time, even if they do not have symptoms.

Please also follow these hygiene measures:
- Wash all clothing, bedding, and towels used in the last 3 days at a high temperature (60°C or above).
- Items that cannot be washed should be sealed in a bag for at least 72 hours.
- Vacuum soft furnishings and mattresses where possible.

To help prevent the spread within the pharmacy:
- Avoid unnecessary contact with surfaces.
- Follow any guidance provided by staff during your visit.

Please be reassured that our team is taking extra precautions to keep everyone safe. High-touch surfaces are being cleaned and disinfected regularly throughout the day.

If you think you may have scabies, please speak to a member of our team for advice and treatment options.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping keep everyone safe.

Update. Please expect longer waiting and processing times [ 3-5 working days) in the following weeks as we are working very short staffed while staff taking annual leaves.
In addition to dispensing +3-400s of prescriptions each day for our regular 5000+patients from 10 different surgeries , we're dealing with numerous tourists, providing various services while facing frequent supply issues or delivery problems.
Please remember to order your repeat scripts preferably on your NHS App or simply drop your repeat slips directly to your surgery.
The less phone calls we receive the faster and safer we can process your prescriptions.
Please note that if you received a text from your surgery that your medication is ready - it only means that your doctor signed your prescription and it has just been sent to the pharmacy.
It will then go through numerous steps and hours or days until it will actually be ready for collection.

Wishing you all a healthy and relaxing summer.
Appreciate your support.

Please expect longer processing times. The bankholidays mean we have to dispense 6days prescriptions in 4 days.If your Gp Sent us your prescription it doesn't necessarily mean it will be ready on the same day. Also please understand that we don't have capacity to answer phone calls while we try to safely dispense your prescriptions and serve the long queue of patients in the pharmacy.
Thanks for your patience.
Ps. The photo demonstrates just about 1h of our download today. We downloaded 965 items in 9hrs today.
