WHAT A DAY!! Day in the life of Ear For You North East!
Home visit day, started off well...
Patient 1 in Monkseaton, delightful 97 yr old lady, all went fine and dandy, one happy lady with improved hearing 😊
Driving from patient 1 to patient 2 in Whitley Bay and pulled in on the bottom of Haig Ave to check the address of my next patient. A lady knocked on my window ('Lisa' - didn't know her name at this point but we got acquainted as time went on!) to tell me I had a flat tyre. I got out and it was looking quite flat but within no time it was flat as a 💨 on the rim...No chance of driving safely to a tyre place!
No spare tyre (why don't new cars come with such things!?), rip in tyre too bad for 'tyreweld' stuff which I amazed myself I had in the depths of my boot!
So I was contemplating my options...
A. call Dad, no answer (apparently in his hut on the haven beach, out of reception!)
B. call brother, at work
C. call brother in law, advised 'definitely don't drive it like that'
D. call RAC, yep I'll do that
About to go with option D and Lisa came to my rescue! What a lady! She rallied the troops. I tried to decline as being very British I didn't want to put anyone out but she was so lovely and just wanted to help...
Along comes 'Vlad' who is a mechanic (lucky me!), Lisa's neighbour to the right. He nipped to get his tools and jack, he said he could take the tyre off so I could take it to be repaired/replaced...
Then along comes 'Derek' who is neighbour to the left of Lisa's, she had recruited him to give me and said injured tyre a lift to garage!
So off Derek and I (and injured tyre in the boot) went to Foxhunters Tyres & Alloys (via their closed down premises at hillheads first, oops!) at Burnside Rd, Cullercoats. I rang ahead and they were amazing and greeted me as I got there and whisked injured tyre away! (Again being very British) I felt bad enough I had took up Derek's day enough so thanked him and said he should go and I'll get a taxi back to Haig Avenue to my abandoned three wheel car!! He insisted on waiting for me which was so kind.
£79.50 later and a new tyre arrives (thank you Foxhunters tyres, I'll pop on a 5 ⭐ review for you guys - got to support local businesses!) Back in Derek's boot and off we go back to Haig Avenue. Lisa and Vlad met us and swiftly my car was back to being a four wheeler!!
I tried to give Lisa, Vlad and Derek a tenner each for their troubles and as a token of my thanks but they all politely declined. Lisa suggested I donate the £30 to a cancer charity which I have done so some good will come from 'tyre-gate'.
BACK ON THE ROAD! YIPPEE! I said a fond farewell to my new found 'tyre heros' and off I went on my merry way to restore some more hearing!
Then headed further into Whitley Bay and Cullercoats to see patients number 2 and 3 (albeit a bit later than planned) but they were super understanding and politely listened (when the wax was cleared from their ears mind!!) to my tales of woe (tyres)!!! On route between patients I nipped past 'Cullercoats Coffee' for a well needed take away caffeine hit ☕ from my partner Dan and the other lovely staff there!
WHAT A DAY! IF ANYONE KNOWS ANY OF MY TYRE HEROES PLEASE LET THEM KNOW I'M SUPER GRATEFUL (THERE ARE MANY LUSH PEOPLE IN THIS 🌎) AND THAT THEIR DONATION TO Cancer Research UK HAS BEEN MADE 💕 AND IF ANYONE WANTS TOP CLASS TYRE SERVICE GIVE 'FOXHUNTERS TYRES' A SHOUT!!
Thank you for reading... Over and out. This is one Nurse who just needs a new day!!!
