Time for Thriving TimeforThriving offers holistic psychological support that helps adults heal, build resilience, and live with clarity and connection.

TimeforTalking is a specialist provider of Employee Counselling Services [usually referred to as Employee Assistance Programmes –EAP] to organisations. These services link psychological wellbeing and employment and support service users in their day-to-day life functioning. The service is free to employees and is aimed at providing a brief intervention (4-8 weeks) which can assist the person to maintain psychological stability healthy functioning as they deal with life difficulties.

Stress responses do not only happen during major life events. Often, they show up in the most ordinary places. A supermarket aisle. A busy car park. A crowded inbox. A conversation that suddenly feels too much.

One of the most powerful things we can learn is how to notice what is happening in our body before we become completely overwhelmed by it.

Polyvagal Theory helps explain why these moments can feel so intense. Our nervous system is constantly scanning for cues of safety or danger, often long before our logical brain catches up. That’s why small grounding actions, like pausing, breathing, slowing down, or orienting yourself to your surroundings, can have such a meaningful impact.

Regulation is not about never feeling stressed. It is about recognising the signals earlier and responding to yourself with care rather than criticism.

Our minds are wired to protect us, but sometimes that protection system becomes overactive. A single moment of uncertainty can quickly turn into self-criticism, panic, or worst-case thinking before we’ve even had a chance to pause and assess the reality of the situation.

The important thing to remember is that having these thoughts doesn’t mean something is wrong with you. Stress, anxiety, and overwhelm often develop through repeated patterns that our brains have learned over time. The good news is that patterns can be changed.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) helps people build awareness of those automatic responses and create healthier, more balanced ways of thinking. It’s not about “thinking positively” all the time. It’s about learning how to respond to yourself with more clarity, compassion, and perspective when pressure shows up.
