When coming to distill the essence of this remedy it is somewhat challenging given the sheer depth and breadth in which the seemingly humble fig resonates. Having had the opportunity to be a part of the meditative proving in Spain with Colin Griffith, FICUS CARICA holds a particularly special place - not only for me personally given my experience within the proving circle, but as a remarkable polycrest remedy in and of itself.
Emanating from a profound feeling that one is UNSAFE there is the strong propulsion to seek PROTECTION in response. This is a person harbouring DISTRESS and INSTABILITY WITHIN. There may be a feeling of internal CLAUSTROPHOBIA and a sense of FEELING TRAPPED which may be expressed with subtlety or arise from a clear aetiology. There is in FICUS a palpable SENSE that this person is on a QUEST, there is a STRONG DESIRE FOR KNOWLEDGE.
Historically it may be evident that the root of one’s sense of safety has been THWARTED by DOMINATION or a specific DOMINANT figure. FICUS is a welcome addition to our remedy group in which the dynamic held between the individual and their FATHER/FATHER FIGURE plays a significant role in their CORE WOUND.. On this line, it is also interesting to note that it is a remedy of feeling SMALL, fascinating as FICUS has INADEQUACY and the belief that they are “NOT ENOUGH” in its picture, they may even coin themselves as having “IMPOSTER SYNDROME".
With a distinct interplay between INTENSITY and OBFUSCATION, FICUS holds a profound sense of UNEASE with subsequent FRAGMENTATION that may surface through EMOTIONS ranging from FEAR to RAGE, ANXIETY to EXASPERATION. Prone to becoming DISTRACTED and understandably CONFUSED, we may see that the person in front of us talks on their INABILITY TO THINK CLEARLY. This can indeed become entrenched to such a degree that the FICUS individual not only looses the ABILITY TO TRUST OTHERS BUT ALSO THEMSELVES, likely observable through their constant need for REASSURANCE,
The sheer amount of resources that it takes to navigate their inherent LACK OF PEACE can in FICUS take its toll mentally, affecting the MEMORY to such a degree that in advanced stages DEMENTIA and even total MENTAL BREAKDOWN are potentials. It is helpful to consider the keynote of FICUS as being a remedy where HIDDEN and DEEP PATHOLOGICAL PROCESSES are in effect, perceptible well in advance of any consolidated “diseases diagnosis" through the careful process of thorough preemptive Homeopathic treatment.
FICUS is a remedy for all manner of DIGESTIVE ISSUES - CONSTIPATION to CROHN’S DISEASE, SLUGGISH PERISTALSIS to MALABSORPTION. It is a formative remedy for the LYMPH, HEART, CIRCULATION and BLOOD, an excellent remedy for aiding in supporting the ELASTICITY OF THE VESSELS so crucial for longevity and health. Think on FICUS for conditions marked by TOXIC OVERLOAD - CANCERS, LIVER and GALLBLADDER COMPLAINTS, WATER RETENTION and VARYING INFECTIONS and so on.
The structure of the fig fruit reveals its Doctrine of Signature as having a strong affinity with the GENERATIVE ORGANS particularly the TESTICLES and without question the OVARIES. IIRREGULAR MENSTRUAL CYCLES, HOT FLASHES and POLYCYSTIC OVARIES fall within its remit.
The fig tree discharges the irritant LATEX when cut, it is as such no surprise that we see FICUS as homeopathic remedy indicated in all manner of SKIN PATHOLOGY from ECZEMA to PSORIASIS, VITILIGO to ACNE. This is a remedy that will continually unfold in our understanding - ultimately a remedy that will instil PEACE and FREEDOM.

“I specialise in the treatment of complex conditions – from hormonal to musculoskeletal, neurological to developmental. As a Homeopath my perspective is holistic, everything is connected and in my experience, will always involve varying degrees of TRAUMA, TOXINS &/or DEFICIENCIES. How these three “pivot points” manifest themselves through a person’s story, informs my approach to case-taking.”
