What I’ve learnt from my BA to my MA at drama school.
1. If you don’t do what you love, it will always follow you until you find it again. So it’s best not to waste time doing something you don’t enjoy. The day I graduated from my BA, I was also in gym management, I hated the job so much and I could already see myself drifting further and further away from my passions.
2. You have to say yes to things even if they don’t seem feasible. I got a place on my masters about a week before the course started, I somehow had to muster up the fees for it as well as figure out how to successfully balance my business. Which leads me onto point 3.
3. You will always find a way to work it out. That huge amount of stress you’re feeling from something? Relax, ultimately everything will be ok and will always figure itself out.
4. You need to be challenged to grow. Many times in my masters I felt imposter syndrome, at times it got a bit much constantly receiving feedback that wasn’t positive. There were moments where I questioned why I was there if I wasn’t good enough. But the challenge and discomfort made me grow
5. Don’t let go of self-expression just because you’re not currently working on a project.Performers will get this. I hadn’t danced in years, when I did my MA I had so many opportunities again to be self-expressive through my body and it felt amazing. Whether it’s making you money or not, keep up the disciplines, hire a studio for an hour and just move or sing
Who thinks I should do a phd next??
