Strange how you can feel overwhelmed in a supermarket but be absolutely fine at a festival.

It just goes to show that it’s about so much more than just how busy a place is.
Sometimes it’s about how much pressure you’re carrying, how you’re feeling that day, how safe you feel, or whether you’re somewhere that you actually want to be.

Not all overwhelm looks the same, just like not every day looks the same. ✌🏻

Well, FESTIVAL SEASON is here!!!! 🎪🎼🎸

While fields full of music is incredibly joyful, they can also be a massive sensory overload.
Between the broken sleep, heavy crowds, and dehydration, it is completely normal to feel overwhelmed or anxious.

If you are heading to a festival this summer, I just wanted to remind you about…
⭐️ Welfare Tent: Find it on day one. They are staffed by amazing, non-judgmental mental health volunteers.
⭐️ Alcohol disrupts your brain chemistry. A low mood on Monday is a temporary chemical reaction - be gentle with yourself.
⭐️ Pause: You don’t have to see every band. Step back to the perimeter and breathe if the crowd feels too heavy.

Listen to your body.
Your festival experience is unique to you.

If you’re at Download next weekend, I might just see you there 😉

There’s something about watching the sea.
The sound, the movement, the fresh air... simple things that are easy to miss in day-to-day life.

A little reminder that we don’t always need to be doing something productive.
Sometimes it’s enough just to stop and take it all in.

A gentle reminder in the current heatwave ☀️

If you take medication for your mental health, particularly SSRIs/SNRIs such as sertraline, fluoxetine, citalopram, duloxetine, or mirtazapine, hot weather may increase heat sensitivity and risk of dehydration.

Please take care during warmer weather - looking after your mental health also means looking after your physical health too.

Be gentle with yourself, listen to your body, and stay safe 🌱

Just a little note to say I’ll be logging off for a few days over half term for some much needed rest and recharge time 💚

Wishing you all a lovely bank holiday weekend. Be kind to yourselves, slow down where you can, and take care 😊

Alongside my private client work, I also go out into schools and deliver therapy sessions for a charity that I work with, and although it might sometimes look like we’re not doing much it’s really important that children get to ‘play’ in therapy sessions. In sessions in the school setting, this might mean them doing things like colouring, Lego, doodling, kinetic sand, fidgets, role play.. the list is endless!

Playing is how children process emotions, and make sense of their experiences when words are difficult.
To an outside observer it may not always look like ‘therapy’ or seem like much is happening, but through play, children build trust, feel safe, and gradually work through worries, relationships, and big feelings in a way that matches their stage of development.

People sometimes ask if listening to other people’s struggles all day is depressing.

But honestly, as counsellors, we don’t just see the difficulties, we see the strength, the potential and the first steps towards real change.

Watching someone slowly reconnect with themselves, grow in confidence and start living more authentically is a real privilege 💚

🌱 ONLINE & PHONE COUNSELLING 🌱

Not sure about online or phone counselling? That’s completely normal.

Many people find it easier to open up from the comfort of home - no travelling, no waiting rooms, no pressure.

The support is still the same! ☺️

You don’t have to earn rest.

Taking time to pause and recharge is an important part of looking after your mental health.
