I love watching Agapanthus flowers open. 🌿😀

At first they look like one tightly closed bud.

But over the course of a few days they begin to burst open, revealing dozens of individual flowers, each one opening in its own time.

It made me wonder how often we think of ourselves as one fixed thing.

One role.
One identity.
One version of who we are - or were.

Perhaps that's why midlife can feel so unsettling.

Not because we're losing ourselves...

but because we're beginning to discover there's more to us than we ever realised. 😉

New parts of us emerging.
Older parts coming back.
Different colours.
Different strengths.

Not becoming someone else.

Simply revealing more of who we already are! 💚🌿😊

This one’s harder to explain. 😆🌱

It’s not just that nature feels peaceful.
Although it does.

It’s something much, much bigger than that. 🤩

There’s energy in it.
Movement.
Change.
Life happening everywhere you look.

It can feel calming one moment…
and full of interest or excitement the next.

And I think that’s why it helps.

Because it reflects all of it back.

Not just the quiet parts,
but the messy, changing, in-between parts too.

And when you start to see that…
you can begin to recognise it in yourself.

Not something separate.

But something you’re already part of 🌿💚

Emotional regulation in the garden… but make it lavender flavoured 💜🌿

There’s actually a reason this works.😆

Lavender contains a natural compound called linalool,
which has been shown to help calm the nervous system.

It can:
– reduce anxiety
– lower heart rate
– decrease cortisol (stress hormone)
– and even support serotonin levels

So that moment of standing there,
absent-mindedly brushing your hands through it…

isn’t just a nice idea.

It’s your body responding in real time. 🤩

Who knew emotional regulation could be this simple and smell this good!😄🌿💜

It’s amazing what a smell can do to you. 🤩🌿

I can be completely in the present moment…
and then suddenly I’m back in 1973
standing outside the toilets at Woolacombe beach 😄

Warm air, damp shade, seawater, suncream…
and the smell of privet flowers.

All of it, instantly! 😀

Without any conscious effort or thinking - just right there.

And I think there’s something really interesting in that.

How quickly we can be transported.
How certain things stay with us…
held somewhere just below the surface.

Not gone.
Just waiting for something familiar
to bring it all back again 🌿💚

I think this is where things started to shift for me. 😊🌱

Just noticing patterns.
In plants, in seasons, in how things grow…
where they thrive, where they struggle, and how they change over time. 🌱🍏

And then slowly realising
it’s not that different for us.

We move through different internal seasons too.

Times of growth.
Times of uncertainty.
Times of pulling back, or opening up.

But not in a straight line or in a neat order - in a kind of rhythm. 😀

And once you start to see that…
things start to make a little more sense 🌿💚🤩
