I don't think we always recognise strength when we see it. 🤔
We tend to associate it with things that are solid, structured and hard.

But then you notice something wonderful like this moss - soft, spongey and delicate, almost fragile... and you think again 😊🌱

Moss can survive long periods of dryness, enduring harsh conditions and freezing temperatures - but the moment moisture returns it springs back to life as if nothing has happened.

It's a great lesson for midlife - not all strength is visible and not all resilience is loud.

For some of us it's softer and quieter - but just as powerful💚🌱

I think a lot of us assume something's probably gone wrong in midlife when things slow down, get quiet and we feel less sure of ourselves 💚

But maybe that's not something to fix.

Maybe it's where something new begins.

And maybe it's where we can find ourselves - all over again... 💚🌿

I think I used to imagine that by a certain point in life, you’d feel… fully formed 😳

As if everything that you were going to be had already arrived.

But the more I notice in plants like this, the more I’m starting to see it differently.

This Ranunculus doesn’t open all at once. Hundreds of delicate, soft petals peal back to reveal more and more of itself, but gradually over time.

Layer by layer.

Becoming fuller.
More expansive.
And more itself.

Not all at the beginning.

And maybe we’re more like that than we realise 😊🏵️

Let's embrace our unfolding!! 😁💚

When I'm bimbling about in nature - noticing how, where, when and why plants grow - I found that the natural world - and plants especially - have a magical way of explaining things about our midlife world that really helps to reframe the changes we're experiencing🌿🙂

I created the Herbydaceous Reflections (short, gentle audio pieces inspired by nature but grounded in real midlife 😉) to help us reconnect with ourselves.

They're not quite meditations or storytelling but each one explores a different inner season that we move in and out of throughout midlife.

They aren't about fixing or improving ourselves - but simply invitations to notice where and who we are - because sometimes that part of us gets lost 💚😊🌿

If you're curious you can find them on the Herbydaceous website: https://www.herbydaceous.co.uk/products-reflections/

I don’t think I’d really noticed this before🌸🌿

The way a foxglove actually flowers...

It doesn’t open all at once.

The lower flowers bloom first,
then gradually, over a few weeks in May and June,
the ones above begin to open.

At the same time,
the earliest flowers are already finishing…
forming seed,
becoming something else entirely.

All happening on the same stem.

And it made me think about how we tend to see life in stages.

As if things have a clear beginning, middle and end.
As if once one part is over, everything after it is a kind of decline.

But nah - the foxglove doesn’t work like that - and neither do we!😊

It’s not a single moment of being “in bloom”.

It’s a sequence.
An ongoing process.

Some parts opening.
Some parts deepening.
Some parts quietly transforming into what comes next.

And maybe midlife is more like this than we realise 💚🙂.

We're still becoming, still opening and still creating.

Not everything happening at once.
Not everything behind us.

Just a continuing unfolding… 💚🌿😊

See - you are a foxglove! 😁
