The team at OT4life have been doing some research out in the community asking people how they would like to refer into our service, and we received lots of positive comments back asking for our referral form to be added to our website, along with our enquiry form. We wanted to give people the option.

Our referral form is now live on our website www.ot4life.co.uk

Of course we can still take referrals or enquiries over the phone, or via our email.

What a year it has been for OT4Life so far.

We have been working up and down the UK, supporting clients and families, collaborating with some brilliant professionals and organisations, and continuing to grow our services. This summer has been particularly busy, and we are incredibly proud of everything the OT4Life team has achieved.

After a long period of hard work, it is finally time for some well deserved time off as my wife and I head to Costa Rica for our honeymoon. It feels like forever ago since we tied the knot, so this break is long overdue.

OT4Life will reopen fully on 15 September, when I will return rested, refreshed and ready for the next chapter.

During my absence, emails will still be monitored and responded to by Janette, our amazing team secretary. However, due to the time difference and limited availability while I am in Costa Rica, anything urgent may need to wait until my return.

We are still accepting new referrals and enquiries for assessments and work to be scheduled after 15 September.

Thank you to every client, family, colleague, supplier and organisation who has supported and worked with OT4Life so far this year. We look forward to seeing you all on the other side.

Supporting You After an MND Diagnosis

A diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) can bring huge changes and many questions — not only for the person diagnosed, but for their family and carers too.

At OT4life, we can provide practical, person-centred support to help you maintain independence, safety and quality of life.

We can support with:

Adapting the home and everyday activities
Advice around equipment and assistive technology
Supporting families and carers to understand changing needs
Finding practical ways to conserve energy and manage daily routines
Working alongside the person, their family and wider healthcare teams

Most importantly, we listen. Everyone's experience of MND is different, and support should be tailored around what matters most to you.

You don't have to navigate it alone.

Find out how we can help by just getting in touch: 01924 635444 or send us an email [email protected] or check out our website www.ot4life.co.uk

MYTH: “Occupational therapists don’t really have anything to do with employment.”

TRUTH: Employment can be a huge part of occupational therapy!

Occupational therapists can support people to return to work, stay in work, or manage changes in their working role. They can liaise with your employer on your behalf.

This might include looking at:

Workplace demands and responsibilities
Concentration, memory and organisation
Fatigue, stress and managing energy
Workstation and ergonomic needs
Adjustments or different ways of completing work
Confidence and skills for returning to work

The goal isn’t simply to get someone back to work — it’s about helping them participate safely, sustainably and successfully in employment.

Because work is more than a job — it can provide purpose, routine, identity, connection and independence.

The Bridge Keeper

Long ago, a wise woman called the Bridge Keeper helped villagers who struggled to move safely around their homes and community.

One day, a man named Elias told her, “I don't need help. I can manage alone.”

The Bridge Keeper smiled and replied, “Independence does not always mean doing everything alone. Sometimes it means having the right support.”

She taught Elias how to move safely, use his equipment correctly, and ask for help when needed. She reminded the villagers to communicate, prepare the environment, and respect each person's abilities and choices.

Years later, the Bridge Keeper herself needed help crossing the bridge. The villagers did not simply carry her. They asked what she could do, listened to what she wanted, and provided the right support.

The Bridge Keeper smiled.

“Now you understand. The right support does not take away independence—it helps people keep it.”

And so the villagers remembered her lesson: move with the person, not just the person.

This is an original myth inspired by the principles of occupational therapy, particularly moving and handling, person centred support, dignity and independence...

Answer: TRUE

Occupational Therapists are University - qualified healthcare professions.

To become an OT in the UK, you need to complete an approved Occupational Therapy degree, gain hands on experience through clinical placements, and register with the HCPC.

And what do they actually do?

OT's use specialist knowledge , clinical reasoning and evidence based practice to help people live as independently and meaningfully as possible - whether that's at home, at work, in education or in the community.

So no basket weaving. No hard selling. Just highly skilled healthcare professionals helping people do the things that matter to them.

OT's do more than you might think!

OT4Life is an independent specialised occupational therapy service. Read more about what we do on our website.
