What’s my story?
A while back I shared the story of how my business got its name. So many of you have joined me since then, new followers and new patients, that it felt like the right time to tell it again. It also gives you a window into why I care about this so much, and what keeps me going when things get hard.
There are two parts to my business name, and I’d love to share both with you.
It might sound odd, but I never used to be especially fond of butterflies. Now they mean everything to me, both in my work and in my own life.
Ten years ago, just as I was starting my aesthetics training, I lost my beautiful Mum to an aggressive brain tumour. From diagnosis to losing her was only five months. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever been through, watching and waiting for something I couldn’t stop. Through all of it, she showed nothing but strength and courage.
In one of our last proper conversations, she told me to live my life fully. Take the risks. Hold onto no regrets. And she made me a promise. That I would never be alone, because when she went she’d come back as a butterfly, watching over me and watching my children grow. She died that summer, and everywhere I turned, there was a butterfly.
Those words carried me through the disbelief, the grief and the anger. They’re also the reason I found the courage to build this business, step back from the NHS, and live life on my own terms. The name followed naturally. To this day she’s still the force behind me, the reason I want to succeed.
The second part is the “butterfly effect.”
The idea is simple: small changes can create huge ripples. I think of it like this. If something is quietly chipping away at your confidence, a few lines or lips you’ve never felt sure of, then the right treatment can change how you feel about yourself in a far bigger way than you’d expect.
