Happy Solstice! (Can you believe it is here already?!) Blessings to you 🙌☀️🌻

Happy Summer Solstice! Today is the longest day of the year and all of Nature's bounty is flourishing. A time of spiritual transformation, now couldn't be a better time to celebrate all the beauty that you have in your life. Celebrate and use positive intention for the best version of yourself as we start to move towards shorter days and longer nights calling us to go inward once again.

It is a time to celebrate the Light. We are Light. Our DNA emits photons or particles of light which aren't visible by the naked eye but can be measured. Scientists such as Einstein and Max Planck proved how matter is actually energy which in essence is light, sound and consciousness. Light is constantly released and absorbed by our DNA. This light connects, regulates and informs everything. Light can help us to heal. How do we increase healing levels of light in our system? Eating vibrant fresh fruit and vegetables, lying or walking barefoot on the ground and meditation are some of the simplest ways to increase your light vibration.

Our ancestors stayed up all night on Midsummer's eve to watch the sunrise and celebrate this longest day. They lit bonfires and passed their cattle and all who were sick through the smoke in order to bring healing. The fire was jumped over to ensure abundance and fertility of the land. Farmers would light a torch and circle their crops three times to celebrate the Earth and the coming harvest. It was a time of joyful dancing and several Goddesses were celebrated. Flowers were woven into garlands for the dancers to wear upon their heads. Stone circles were visited at this time (and still are today) as many are aligned with the Solstice sunrise.

Ways to celebrate:
* Light a candle to represent the sun, journal about what you are grateful for and what you would like to focus your intention on for the remainder of the year.
* Play some music and dance.
* Make a little Solstice altar in your home: gather some flowers and place them in a vase or put a little dish with some water or a shell to represent the element of water near them. Light a little night light for the flame to represent the sun.

Things to consider:
* What is it that you celebrate about your life?
* What have you created or learned so far this year?
* What is it that you would like to focus your energy on going forward?
* What is it that has brought you wholeness?
* What would bring more wholeness to your life?

Have fun!☀️

Thyme essential oil..

Thyme essential oil..

I often feel that Thyme is an under-estimated and over-looked herb and essential oil. I make sure that I have both in my home remedies store each winter. When it comes to the essential oil, I prefer to use Soft Thyme (Thymus ct linalool) as it is gentle and safer to use with a softer herby scent that is lovely in blends with other essential oils.

Thyme essential oil stands out as an anti-viral, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. It is excellent for colds, 'flu, coughs, bronchitis, sore throats and laryngitis. I use it in a blend with Eucalyptus globulus or smithii and Ravensara if I ever feel like I might be coming down with a bug. You can use it in your essential oil diffuser or blend it in some pure cream, lotion or base oil and apply to the collar bone area and soles of the feet a couple of times per day.

It is excellent for all types of infections as it stimulates the production of white corpuscles in the blood, positively affecting the immune system. It can be helpful for urinary tract infections through blending it with other essential oils, such as Bergamot and Roman chamomile, in a cream or lotion and massaging the lower abdomen and back. It is helpful for those suffering with fatigue, nervous exhaustion or depression and so can be worth using if you are recovering from illness. It can stimulate the appetite and help with digestive complaints. It is also a helpful essential oil to use in a blend for arthritis and muscular aches and pains.

Ensure that any essential oil you use is pure and fit for therapeutic use. The Soft Thyme (Thymus ct linalool) is non-irritating however other chemotypes can irritate the skin so always check which one you are buying. Essential oils should have their Latin name on the bottle. It is worthwhile and wise to research the essential oils you use either on-line or invest in some good Aromatherapy books.

In winter, I also make sure that I have both dried and a fresh thyme plant in my kitchen. As well as using it in my cooking (it's delish in vegetable and bean stews), thyme tea is absolutely wonderful for sore throats, coughs or congestion. Taking a quarter teaspoon of thyme and chewing on it for 10 minutes before swallowing 2-3 times daily is brilliant for dealing with congestion in the chest and throat. You can, if inclined, make your own cough syrup with this wonderful healing herb. In fact, I discovered that a well known brand of cough syrup available in the supermarket is primarily thyme syrup!

May Chang, or Litsea Cubeba as it is also known, is distilled from a small tree that comes from China. Many people have not heard of this beautiful essential oil that has a lovely fresh citrus type scent. You will find it used a lot in soaps and skincare products. It is a wonderful antiseptic and astringent and has a balancing affect on oily skin and hair. It is also a very helpful oil if your appetite is poor and it has a regulating effect on the digestive system, relieves flatulence and nausea. I tend to use it when someone is suffering with IBS. It is uplifting and stimulating, whilst also being calming, and is a wonderful anti-depressant. I find it very helpful for those who are feeling despair as it lifts the spirit. It is an excellent essential oil to use in blends if you are feeling low in energy or despondent. I use it a lot in the winter, especially in blends with other oils in the essential oil diffuser. It definitely brings a smile in grey winter months!

Always source pure therapeutic grade essential oils from a good essential oils company. Look for a label that states "Member of The Aromatherapy Trade Council" when shopping on websites online. I tend to buy from smaller, well established companies who have been around for decades rather than corporate driven entities. Dilute essential oils before use as applying them neat can cause irritation at the very least. There are so many aromatherapy books available now. If you are buying any, please make sure that the book has been written by a qualified aromatherapist. The Aromaweb online website is also good resource. You can also ask me any questions about essential oils....

Celebrating Aromatherapy Awareness Week and the potent plant spirit medicine of essential oils.

Palmarosa (Cymbopogon martinii) is a sweet rose-like scented essential oil distilled from a tropical grass that grows in India, Madagascar, Brazil and Indonesia. Its scent is somewhat like geranium and rose and it has been used to adulterate rose essential oil. It is used a lot in soaps and skincare due to its balancing nature and is useful for acne, some forms of dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis and, with its cell regenerating properties, ageing skin. While it is quite a sweet scent that works alone, it is an oil that blends beautifully with many other essential oils.

It is a wonderful antiseptic, particularly with urinary tract infections. It can also be used for respiratory tract infections and digestive complaints such as IBS. It is anti-fungal. It is an helpful oil to use alongside others in treating anorexia. It stands out with regards to helping any stress or anxiety related issues. Indeed, as an aromatherapist, Palmarosa is one of my "go-to" oils in working with emotional distress.

I have watched how it soothes and transforms those suffering with anxiety, in particular, anxiety around health concerns. It is calming to those who feel agitated, nervous, irritated and lacking confidence. I always include Palmarosa in blends for clients who are worn out from feeling stuck and also those who are frightened of change. I have found it uplifting for those who feel lonely. It is wonderful to use in a blend with lavender and neroli for sleep issues, especially if there is restlessness and ruminating in the middle of the night. I have made roller ball pulse blends using it alongside nagarmotha which have helped those suffering with insomnia.

It is vital to use pure therapeutic grade essential oils. Always dilute essential oils before use. Research any essential oil before use as some have contraindications. Aromaweb is a good on-line resource plus having some high quality books on essential oils in your library is an investment you won't regret. Using essential oils is the best way to get to know them....enjoy!💗
