September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, an opportunity to raise awareness of the most common cancer in men in the UK.
Did you know? Around 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime, and the risk is higher for men over 50, Black men, and those with a family history of the disease.
Taking care of your health is an important part of self care. This month, take a moment to:
• Know your family history
• Be aware of changes in your body
• Attend health checks when invited
• Speak to your GP if you have any concerns
• Encourage the men in your life to look after their health too
Symptoms can include:
🔹 Needing to urinate more frequently, especially at night
🔹 Difficulty starting or stopping urination
🔹 A weak urine flow
🔹 Feeling that your bladder has not emptied properly
It's important to remember that having symptoms does not always mean it's cancer, but it's always worth getting checked.
If you have concerns about your health, speak to your GP or healthcare professional. You can also contact our Information & Outreach Support Service at Walsall Palliative Care Centre on 01922 602610, where our team will be happy to offer support and information.
