Celebrating 🌟

On Tuesday, we came together to celebrate Shared Lives Week with our fantastic Shared Lives team, Carers, and the people supported by the service.

We saw many familiar faces alongside new ones, including former colleagues and Shared Lives Plus Community representative Cathy. We heard from Robert, who shared his experiences of living in a Shared Lives placement and spoke about the many places he has visited and adventures he has enjoyed with his Carers. ✈️

With the sun shining, a competitive game of giant Jenga, and plenty of delicious cake, it was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the relationships, achievements, and community spirit that make Shared Lives so special.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and our wonderful team at the Lucan Tea Room for hosting us. ❀

Today we were proud to celebrate the launch of A Walk with Friends, a new Beyond Words title created in partnership with Active Prospects UK.

Co-produced with people with a learning disability at every stage, the book uses pictures to tell a story and support understanding, inclusion and independence. The launch felt especially meaningful during , with this year's theme, Do You See Me? A Walk with Friends is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when people's voices and experiences lead the way. 🌿

A huge thank you to Beyond Words, Surrey Hills Society, Community Foundation for Surrey and 3Ts for supporting this project. Congratulations to everyone who helped bring it to life πŸ‘

You see the flowers... but do you see the people behind them? 🌸

To kick off we're shining a spotlight on the team behind the beautiful Spelthorne in Bloom displays.

The flower displays brightening Staines, Laleham, Ashford and Shepperton have had a lot of love and care behind them. Our Laleham Vocational Project team has been hard at work, helping with washing 12,000+ pots, planting, watering and caring for thousands of flowers ready to brighten the borough. 🌸

Next time you spot a floral display brightening up your day, remember the amazing people who helped make it happen! 🌼

What makes a carer-friendly community? πŸ’™
This Carers Week, we're celebrating the importance of building communities where unpaid Carers feel recognised, supported and valued.

Small actions can make a big difference. Together, we can create communities where Carers feel connected, supported and able to thrive.

It's Volunteers' Week, a chance to celebrate the incredible contribution volunteers make in our communities. πŸ’™ At Surrey Choices, volunteering builds confidence, creates opportunities and makes a real difference.

Our EmployAbility service supported people into 320 volunteering opportunities, helping individuals develop skills and become active members of their communities.

Our Vocational Projects teams also contribute an incredible 404 hours of volunteering every week, in partnership with over 220 charities, organisations, and community groups.

The impact doesn't stop there as our teams have grown enough produce to make over 30 food bank donations, helping local people in need.

Thank you to everyone who volunteers and helps create stronger, more inclusive communities across Surrey. πŸ‘

A huge congratulations to Joseph for representing the England Team in the Para section of the Senior Euro Karate Championships in Frankfurt, Germany.

After months of intensive training, Joseph achieved an impressive 9th place overall against some of the best athletes in Europe. An outstanding accomplishment in itself, made even more remarkable by his current world ranking of 25th.

Alongside his sporting success, it’s a pleasure for our EmployAbility team to support Joseph on his employment journey and see first-hand the same determination and commitment.

Well done, Joseph! A fantastic performance on the international stage. We look forward to seeing what’s next for you πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

🏑 We are excited to be exploring the opportunity to take on Moorcroft Community Centre in Woking.

Our vision is to create a welcoming and inclusive community space. It would provide activities and opportunities for people with learning disabilities and neurodivergence. We also want the centre to be a place where local groups, families and residents can come together, connect and take part in community activities.

If you live in Woking or nearby, please take 30 seconds to complete our survey:
