🌊 Seaside Pub Night 🌊

What a lovely evening we had at our Seaside Pub Night at St Katharine's House ! It really felt like a little trip down memory lane as we shared stories of favourite seaside spots, from Bournemouth and Brighton to Weymouth, Southsea, Bridlington and Ramsgate. There were so many memories to choose from!

We spent the evening chatting about family holidays by the sea, sandy toes, big sandcastles, paddling in the waves and of course a few favourite seaside treats along the way 🍦🏖️

To set the mood, we had a good singalong to Summer Holiday by Cliff Richard, which brought plenty of smiles and nostalgia. There was also a fun game of Seaside Snap before tucking into some delicious themed snacks.

Supper was a proper seaside classic, scampi, chips and mushy peas 🐟🍟 with a refreshing drink to go with it.

It was one of those evenings full of laughter, stories and happy moments shared together, and it felt like a little seaside escape right here at St Catherine’s 🌊☀️

A spontaneous trip to the Parkinsons.Me Garden in West Lockinge 🌻

Ewan was keen to show his friend Jim around, so we decided to make the most of the day and pay a little visit. It was Jim’s first time there, and before long they were both getting stuck into a few jobs around the garden. The big task of the day was measuring the sunflowers, with the tallest one reaching an incredible 15ft! 🌻

It was lovely to see how much the garden has changed since our visit in spring. Everything was looking so bright and green, and it was the perfect place to slow down, enjoy the sunshine and take it all in 💚

As summer comes to an end, we’re looking back at some of our August highlights across Gold Care Homes ☀️💜

With plenty of summer sunshine, our homes found ways to enjoy the summer while keeping cool, with ice creams and ice cream van visits proving particularly popular! 🍦

We also put the kettle on for Afternoon Tea Week, enjoyed some well-earned downtime for National Relaxation Day and made the most of the Summer Bank Holiday.

Here are just a few snapshots from August across our homes 📸

St Katharine's House had a brilliant day out in Oxford, with plenty to see and explore at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History 💜

Our wonderful residents enjoyed discovering all the fascinating things the museum had to offer, before heading outside for a picnic lunch together. With beautiful weather on our side, it was a lovely day to get out and about and enjoy a change of scenery!

🌿 We have recently enjoyed two lovely trips out from St Katharine's House , making the most of getting out and about in our local community.

First up was a visit to the The Bear Hotel , one of our favourite spots, where Ian enjoyed a refreshing shandy and June settled down with a coffee and a delicious slice of cake. A very good afternoon all round! ☕🍰

We also headed to Charlton Park Garden Centre & Florist , where we had a look around and picked out a couple of beautiful plants for the garden, as well as a new jigsaw puzzle to enjoy back at home. A big thank you to Tanya for the lovely photographs and for all her help during our visit💜

There were a few ‘Suspicious Minds’ at St Katharine's House last Saturday when we announced that Elvis was coming to town! 🎸

Tim Crysell had everyone ‘All Shook Up’ with a fantastic performance, bringing back plenty of memories of our residents’ own rock ’n’ roll days. There were Elvis glasses, masks, flares and even a few Blue Suede Shoes making an appearance!

The music had everyone reminiscing and singing along, and we’re so grateful to Tim for spending time chatting with our residents and posing for some brilliant photos afterwards💜

Elvis has left the building… for now! 😉

Friday 14th was carnival day at St Katharine's House , and we had such a lovely afternoon! 🎪 It was great to see family and friends joining us, with Alan entertaining us on the saxophone and the fabulous Carina Vale and White Horse Line Dancers putting on a brilliant show.

There were plenty of treats too, including doughnuts, toffee apples, our sweet trolley and lots of freshly made candy floss. The games were a big hit, especially the very unusual nose game, alongside Hook a Duck, Hoopla and Knock ’Em Down! 😂

A lovely afternoon spent together, and one we’ll definitely remember 💜

Carnival Day has arrived at St Katharine's House ! 🎪💜

For the last few weeks, our wonderful residents have been getting creative and making their own colourful, feathered headdresses ready for the big celebration. There was plenty of colour, creativity and a few very impressive designs along the way!

Now it’s time to show off all that hard work and enjoy Carnival Day together. We can’t wait to see everyone’s creations in all their glory! 🎉

Last week at St Katharine's House , we raised a glass to **rDay! 🍺💜

Our wonderful residents enjoyed trying a selection of beers and la**rs, with cheese and biscuits on the side. For many, the tastes and familiar pub-style setting brought back memories of local pubs, old friends and social gatherings over a pint.

It was lovely hearing some of those memories while everyone relaxed together and enjoyed the afternoon 😊

Today, Jean and our Activities Coordinator Rachel enjoyed a little trip into town, with plenty to see along the way! 💜

They started with a visit to the local Post Office to send a parcel, before taking a wander around our wonderful town of . They visited the beautiful St Peter and St Paul’s Church, followed by Wantage Museum, where they stopped to see the statue of poet John Betjeman and read the plaque to learn a little more about him.

From there, they headed to the Market Square to see the statue of King Alfred. Of course, no visit would be complete without reminiscing about the famous story of the burnt cakes! It sounds like Jean and Rachel packed quite a lot into their little outing 😊
