HEALED TATTOOS

Healed tattoos are the best way, providing a client has followed aftercare correctly, to guide you to a great studio and great artists and to show you how an artist can manage different types of skin and ages of skin.

Fresh work can be deceiving at times and can not always show properly executed fundamentals such as line-work, solid shade and solid colour as well as more complex techniques such as showing texture, proper saturation of pigment in the skin and smooth colour or greywash blend application.

In a healed tattoo, you can see what you are going to be walking round with for the rest of your life and what your investment will ultimately look like.

Here you’ll see a very small selection of healed work. Some of this work has been healed for YEARS and some, for example the portrait of Hulk Hogan is on a seventy one year old man!

A cover-up tattoo is a new design tattooed directly over an existing piece of body art so the old design is no longer visible.
People get them to hide poorly executed work, outdated styles, a change in personal taste or designs associated with painful memories, as well as to completely mask tattoos they no longer deem acceptable.
Sometimes, a coverup isn’t needed, but in fact a rework of the existing piece can be done saving the original concept

We will be closed this weekend as El Capitan, Ben is off endangering his hands, wrists and fingers racing a two day Hard Enduro event in Wales.

Sadly, Amy won’t be with us this weekend. She’s been having some awful issues with migraines and they just won’t shake.

A blackout tattoo is a bold, minimalist style involving large areas of skin, typically limbs, chest, or back, but more recently, hands feet, necks and other parts of the body, saturated with solid, black ink.

These tattoos are often used to cover up old, unwanted tattoos, but they have grown popular as a striking aesthetic choice but still remain rather misunderstood by many.
They aren’t too intense to get, contrary to popular belief, however healing can be an intense experience for some but with proper care is more than manageable for anyone.

These tattoos sometimes can require multiple sessions for large areas and they demand skilled artists to ensure even saturation, however Ben has been known to black and entire arm out in around four hours.

Colour realism tattooing is a style designed to mimic the appearance of a photograph or real-life object, featuring vivid color, complex shading, and intense detail, often without traditional harsh black outlines but sometimes depending on the piece, this can benefit the overall look.
These tattoos are often referred to as hyperrealistic or photorealistic tattoos, designed to create a three-dimensional effect, however sometimes it is beneficial to dial back on the “hyper” side of the realism when body part location, longevity and of course budget is considered.
Common examples include realistic portraits, detailed flowers, wildlife, and vivid scenes.

Black and grey tattooing is a style that uses only black ink diluted with water (or in some instances mixed with white) to create a range of tones, resulting in a monochromatic, high-contrast look.

Black and grey and is popular for portraits, realism, and detailed designs that rely on soft shading and depth rather than colour.
Despite its hold on realism, it is also a great tool to be used through other styles of tattooing also where the client doesn’t feel that colour tattoos are their chosen aesthetic and it is also a more cost effective means of realism tattooing than colour due to the processes involved.

Irezumi (入れ墨) is the traditional Japanese art of tattooing, characterized by intricate, large-scale designs covering significant body parts, such as sleeves or full suits.
This form of tattooing features bold, flowing lines, vibrant colours whilst still leaning well to black and grey. Japanese tattooing has deep cultural motifs rooted in folklore, mythology, and nature, originally applied using hand-poked tebori methods but predominately now, and as we do at RCTC, using solely modern tattooing techniques.

What is so grey about modern Japanese tattooing is that the designs and application can be influenced not only by Japanese tattooing, but by may other styles in its application and it is also GREAT tool for covering unwanted tattoos.
